% of hands won at showdown is slightly misleading - it's all good winning 56% of showdowns, but if the 44% of showdowns you're losing are much bigger pots than the 56% that you win, then you're going to lose money.

You are not far wrong here, but it's mainly about how much you invested into each pot rather than the pot size itself.

In a moment of madness (I was Bored) I sat and worked this out last night.........

Winning Example 1 - Winning 56% of showdowns
Pot Value of £2.00 and an investment into the pot of £0.75p....
    56 x 2 = £112 minus your investment (56 x 0.75 = £42) Total won = £70.00

    Losing Example 2 -
    Losing 44% of showdowns
Pot value of £4.00 and an investment of £1.50....
    44 x 1.50 = £66 (Loss)

£70.00 minus £66.00 = £4.00 profit using the examples I have given above.

So it easy to see that your investment in the pot when losing 44% of showdowns would have to be significanty higher than your investment in a the pot when winning 56% of showdowns, before we would make a loss. Infact more than double, because, its not the pot you are losing, only your investment into it.
