In Response to Re: Many Rivers To Cross. A Diary. : Cheers Pat Not a huge difference from 5 to 11. I think there are more people looking to go flipping in the 11ers, an obvious no no if you can avoid it. There seems to be more 'donk betting' in the 11ers as well. Wasn't like that in my day, I'm still adjusting to it. Less limping at 11 but seems to be still prevalent. I think providing you have both the bankroll and the mental attitude to deal with the increase sting of a swing I think you'll be fine, you seemed to me to be decent enough. At 11, as at 5.50, there is still a vast proportion of players without a working knowledge of gap theory or ICM. In standard SnGs this would be great, however with the flat pay structure of a DYM it's not great to be constantly involved in 60/40 spots, especially with the 10% rake taking a chunk. Cheers for the kind words, I don't think I've played great at the lower stakes. I still haven't adjusted my shove and call ranges correctly. I'm fairly close but a few leaks keep jumping in. I also need to adjust to the fact I seem to get called a lot more than any other player at these levels. TBF if feels the same higher up. It may be a perception thing, or an exaggerated perception of a small quirk, but as much as I try to avoid the final hand on the bubble, gosh darn if it doesn't feel like I'm in the vast majority, mainly as the shover rather than the caller. And of course you want to not be in that hand as much as possible. I seem to be magnetised to it at the moment. Posted by TommyD
Thanks for the reply Tommy.
Maybe at my level the £5 dyms.I don't think (happily) that many people are aware of ICM or gap theory. Most are happy to go with their gut feeling.I think that image at my level me (a nit)(lol) and yours (high roller) maybe worked against you.Weekend nights for sure when players will fold to me hopefully will call you just to say they beat tommyd.Run well Tommy and thanks again for the reply.
In Response to Re: Many Rivers To Cross. A Diary. : Not your fault mate. Unless I find out tomorrow you were having an affair with my mate's partner. In which case I'll be trotting around yours to deliver a slap. It does put things in perspective. I freely admit I couldn't complete the challenge even without this but no way will I be grinding low stakes DYMs for a pointless reason while a mate is in this sort of spot. Just gutted I didn't hear earlier, he did give us a text if I wanted to go for a beer the other day but I rainchecked it because of this ridic challenge which, in the grand scheme of things, means less than nothing. Feel a bit guilty now, shouldn't as I didn't know, but still do. Posted by TommyD
Unless I have been sleep walking Im not the culprit.Ah we have all been there just a bloke thing. Many times I have been asked "fancy a pint" and went not tonight.Thinking it was nothing important.Maybe if we all said what we meant like "I could do with a chat pal" but boys will be boys.
So the GF turns around yesterday and says to me 'Can I have £20 please?' Notice we've transferred from the part of the relationship when you say can I borrow twenty quid where both parties silently acknowledge that the money is not expected to be repaid. It's been so long the charade has been dispensed with.
I of course say yes and pass over the funds. As she leaves she tells me why she's skint till payday, she done all of her money on a Nike Fuel band. Now this presents two problems for me. Firstly, the economic sense that you don't buy a luxury item if it leaves you without funds for day to day stuff. Second, I've ordered her that blooming band because she hasn't stopped going on about it and now I have to return it.
Marv.
Poker stuff, cut the volume right down this weekend after doing myself in with the SnGs. I know I haven't made the SnG champ final, just couldn't put in the required volume at the low stakes, however the required volume was probably so huge that only Elky powered by an endless supply of coffee could have made it. Played the Sky big MTTs yesterday, got to around 30 BBs in the Primo a couple hours in and decided to play a draw aggressively, missed. Had a pot to be chip leader or busto in the £110 BHer again a couple hours in, we got it in on the turn and I couldn't fade the outs. TBF there were 13 of them. No real regrets, such is tournaments. Going to try to pick up the volume this week and return to both high stakes DYMs and my first love, the old cash tables. I feel like I've cheated on them last week. Please don't be angry cash tables, I was thinking of you the whole time....

THat's the thin edge of the wedge Tommy! It'll be a kidney next! Also, iirc haven't you two bought a house together? Apologies if this is getting TOO personal. As for NIke Fuel Band!!!! Saw these advertised in a running mag a while back and thought who in their right mind would want, or need, one! Now I know. ;-) Nike are great at marketing tho and the gullible market is humongous!
Re Poker. Could I ask (Again if it's not too personal) are you up or down after your sojourn in the SNG's?

Yeah Pad we have bought a house together. Much of what I said was tongue in cheek and when she says she's skint she's not including the savings both of us plough a lot of money into. I bought her the Nike Watch a couple of Christmas's ago and TBF it's very good. It's interesting to see all the routes and times you've done. The fuel band is a fancy calorie counter to see what you have burnt off in any normal day as well as during exercise. No idea why calories need to be micro managed in such a way, if you feel fat then eat less and move more. Simple.
I made a very small win on the SnGs. I was up a couple of hundred near the end but completely down swong and tilted much of it away in the last couple of sessions. I never fully adjusted my ranges, I believe I was close towards the end but I was never completely happy with my shove/call ranges four handed. Plus frankly I was getting called and shoved on a lot more than other people. I'd reship and people would be happy putting their SnG on the line with Q9s etc, generally always a 40/60 for them. I have no idea if I was running + or 1 EV in these but DYMs is the one form of poker where you're generally happy to fold out worse preflop that's not a dominated worst. 6 max DYMs with 5 min blinds and 10%+ rake is just so tough to consistently beat, the edge really is diminished. You have to be playing A+ to really kick on.
Here's my fully break down of the week, I think the 60p ones were my level:
I just have to say.. for those people that don't consider DYM's a proper form of poker. If someone of TommyD's ability can manage , just a small profit ( No Offense intended Tommy ), it shows the hugh level of skill required to make a good return in this form of the game.
Hats off to the Sky DYM Grinders who make a seriously good amount of money on these

Cheers Jock.
No offense taken, I hold my hands up and confess I wasn't playing my A game and you need to be to make serious dough there. I think some mental flaws are creeping into my game, they are really starting to show themselves firstly at live and now at online poker. I finally got 'The Mental Game' by Tendler and Carter so I'll be reading that this week. A load of people have raved about it so it's definitely worth a go. I don't monkey tilt but the bitter pill of repeated unexpected virtual punches to the gut, exacerbated by now 12 tabling and as such having these come in with more intensity, was affecting my later play. Need to cut that right out.
Enjoy your posts fella. Hope you didn't mind me using you as an example to someone in one of my posts(that's got you guessing hasn't it?) TY for printing your results of the DYM's. A brave effort and like the saying goes, "if you don't try, you'll never know". I'm sure SKY will realise the annoyance lower volume players had with the promo and the idea of a CHAMP emerging. SKY is a business and a term was needed to attract attention. CHAMP fitted the bill. I've played DYMs and been pleased to keep a +ve ROI. It's true an A game is needed. Maybe you got your AI's V TommyD (n"nice to get a scalp" etc). Enjoying deep stacks more now since joining DTD and Woogie's pm league. Good fun and banter. Don't play cash but do want to improve my heads up game. Have you come across a good site for articles on poker in general,Tommy? The Jared Tendhler book is great...i find myself going back to it especially after a bad night DYMing! By the way, i'm an ex maths teacher(20 odd years) and noticed you're having time off. Did you get a sabbatical for a year's course or something. Hope it's not something bad fella.
PS That 'give me £20"....hide the money in your shoe fella...and put your arms out in a "i'm skint" pose. It may work occasionally but may be follwed by a strip search! (could be fun though!)
Nice one for attempting it Tommy and it's not like you did terribly. It was always going to be hard especially if you're only just getting used to 12-tabling, but it was a valiant effort.
I already knew this, but for others it just shows where a vast amount of the profit comes with DYM grinders.... from my workings you made £39 in profit, but earned 3452 poker points which is £48.

Hi Lambert ...if you can work that out then you HAVE got too much time on your hands mate! ha
Just booked my seat to the 6 max at DTD through the Sat. Couldn't do a thing last night when there were a few seats available, just 5 runners tonight, just one seat and bink. Seriously can every MTT be winner takes all please, I seem to have some sort of knack for them. Or a total lack of care which you need in winner takes all. One or the other.
Nice bink. I plan on coming to Nottingham for the 6 max as well, will be fun to meet up again. Any ideas on how to top the Blackpool minigolf extravaganza?

Is there Quasar as well? Now that would be a triathalon I could get behind. Posted by TommyD
Aww I hope so! I've always wanted to go to Quasar, I never met the height requirement when my brother's used to go when we were kids (they're about 8 years older than me), and never got round to going as an adult.

Just searched it and yes, that bowling alley has quasar.
I suggest a team event across the three sports of ten pin bowling, pool and laser tag, would have to be on the Friday night because obviously we'll all make Day 2 of the 6 Max. Either that or we make it a morning thing on Sat and Sun. Takers?

I'm definitely up for this but I'll only be there Sat + Sun, so a morning thing on Sat + Sun would be better for me... either that or we can all just bust out the main.
