why would you do this?

in a double your money it down to 4 players.
xxx (short stack - 3rd) seat 1
myself (short stack - 2nd) seat 2
xxx (large stack 1st) seat 3
xxx (satout, shortstack 4th ) seat 4
anyway as one of the players were sat out myself and xxx were taking a backseat in the torny waiting for xxx to blind out. when it eventually got to that part xxx folded allowing the short stack to win a hand and stay in (this happened twice) where as before she was pushing in every hand this eventually caused xxx to end up losing the torny im just wondering what motivation xxx had for doing this
