there is a bet on the river, i tank for a while bedfore making a hero call with ace high!!  as soon as i announced call the raiser mucked his cards... as my cards are now the only live cards in the hand the dealer passes me the pot. i gave him my cards face down but everyone on the table insisted i showed. the dealer then flipped my cards over showing my hand.

should i have been forced to show my hand?? i understand that you have to show your cards at a showdown to win the pot, but the other guy folded and my cards were the only ones left in the hand!!

I think you do have to show your hand to claim the pot, im not sure if you can just show the ace or whether you have to show both though.

If it went "bet, call", you must show.

If I read your hand right then the dealer should have flipped over the cards of the player who made the bet and mucked his card -because you called his bet - and you should have shown yours to claim the hand.

This is to guard against collusion. If he'd just mucked a really strong hand for example there'd have to be a ruling for soft playing.

However when he mucked his cards he did kill his hand, so whatever he had, you still would have been awarded the pot.

That is if I read the action right - if I did, it's an almost identical situation to a hand I played at the Venetian Deep Stacks in November and that was how the TD explained it to us then.

He didn't fold, he mucked, you must show and all are entitled to see his cards as well as a final bet was called (much like in Hand history when a losing hand is auto mucked)

I had a hand at the UKIPT in Edinburgh last year.

Lots of action pre flop and i have KQ on a board that reads AK3TT

UTG who'd 4bet pre but had been very aggro bets 1/3 of the pot and i call. As soon as i call he says "ace is good?" to which i reply "i only have a king, i guess im splitting then" he instantly mucks his hand and dealer gives me the pot. I only ever showed the king out of respect (i hadnt been asked) but the dealer stated to me later i didnt have to.

I know its different rules for different places, but this is obviously different from whats been mentioned above.

The dealer was wrong. You have to show BOTH cards there to collect the pot.

But let's not get heavy about the Dealers - they earn shocking low wages, (minimum wage usually, with unsocial hours added to the mix) & it is a pig of a job, trying to please poker players, & the Dealers need a little more love, imo.

You must remember, that an Event like UKIPT Edinburgh - one not held in a proper poker venue, & so with no "resident" staff - has what are known as "blow-in" dealers, (temporary staff) so they are quite often not the creme de la creme.

You can't claim the pot without showing both cards.

good reply tikay. I actually do hold dealers in very high regard. On the whole they are very good people and like you said in a previous post, they are often viewed as the equevellent as referees in football. IMO they do deserve so much more credit.

pretty sure it comes down to house rules like most live poker rulings... im almost 100% sure that anywhere in vegas you do not have to show if they muck their hand
