Discussion - Weighted Contribution Poker Points

Hi all

We'll try to keep this simple! Something it would be good to discuss is 'Weighted Contribution' points for cash tables.

At the moment, points (and so cash for points bonuses) are earned based on being involved in a raked hand.
A raked hand is defined as any hand in which you are dealt hole cards and a minimum of 1 pence in rake is taken.

All people earn equal points for that hand. An alternative is to have the points awarded based on how much you contribute to the pot.

So in a purely hypothetical and simple example, with nice round numbers to make it easier- lets say in a hand six people are dealt in:

- At the moment, for example, they'd get 10points each (60points in total)

- In the alternative way (forgetting the blinds to keep it simpler!) in a £40 pot
      - Players 1 & 2 contribute zero = get no points
      - Player 3 contributed £4 = gets 6 points
      - Player 4 contributes £8 = gets 12 points
      - Players 5 & 6 contribute £14 each and get 21 points each

Those who contribute more, get more (and vice versa)

What do people think about this?

I think it's a good way to encourage players to get more active, contribute more to pots and build bigger pots, more often. Therefore a great way for Sky Poker to earn more rake.

Seems as though Sky would be the main beneficiary of this change.

I dunno, for me it would be ok as im a station but it means the nits in the world dont get any points so it is a bit unfair. Original method probably fine

i reckon it would benefit me more than it would hinder me but it wouldnt be by much at the level i play. i wouldnt mind the change but i can understand people who would be against it

I think a better change would be to award points according to the total rake generated, not purely the number of raked hands (and still awarded equally for those players involved in each raked pot)

    Antes would be better :P

This would be a very timely change for me :)

Think there's more chance of my 'Stephen Lee to win Snooker Worlds, Marcel Siem to win the masters & Snoopy Loopy to come out of retirement to win the Gold Cup' accie coming in though :(

I would definitely prefer the contribution option. Much fairer system IMO.

Sounds fairer to impartial me (ie don't play cash).

I wouldn't personally be lovingit because I play mostly at 4nl - 10nl where it's best to play tighter than a ducks... beak. So there's every chance you could play for quite a while and literally earn zero which doesn't seem right.

Having said that, I don't really play with the aim of making loads of C4P (it's a bonus), so it's gonna affect players who put way more volume in than me, so although it would have a negative affect on me, the impact will be much bigger for people like Scotty77 and so the decision is more likely to go in their favour.

Disclaimer: I didn't mean that as a jibe at Scotty77 or any of the other big players, or that I'm jumping on the bandwagon of 'Sky only looks after the highstakes players'. I didn't mean it like that at all, I was just stating the obvious, both in terms of making sure the biggest (positive) affect is felt by the change and as a business decision.

i may be wrong here but...

isn't this the same, or quite similar, to how the pokerleague points are awarded?  i know i tend to get more on the poker league than the cash4points so on that basis (assuming what i've said is right) i give the suggestion a thumbs up

i think for this to worke then poker points must be earned at equal value wether you play nl4, nl1000, stt or mtt

i think this may also have knock on effect of current c4p promotion.

as always there will be winners n losers

Happy with the change... Oddly, I only recently realised it didnt work like this in the first place!

Points should defo be awarded on contribution to the pot imo.. then again I'm a spew bucket, not a nit!!

It's a much fairer system. The risk takers and ultimately the bigger rake payers get more points.
