I quite like this chart for working out (in general terms) where i'm stood. The only problem is of course that it doesn't take into account what we think the opponent might have.

Is there a way of working out by looking at the percentage for my hand and the percentage for their hand what my general chances are pre flop? Ie, if i have JJ but i think they might have AK suited is there a formula i can use to work it out? I tried googling but finding the right wording for the search is leaving me proper frustrated!

Ugh... not sure mate, technical stuff isn't my speciality (ask me questions about pies and curries and I will be much more able to help!).

there's also essentially the same thing available as an app in android market for smartphones called Poker Equity, very handy especially if you ever play live.

Look for an ev calculator that takes into account what you perceive their range as rather than a specific hand. E.g. I have JJ and I think he is A10s+ AJo+ 99+ QKs. Trying to put them on specific hands will get you in trouble especially pre flop.
