Any tips on a new laptop

My old laptop is pretty much running on life support and I'm looking at buying a new one.

Any tips in terms of RAM, hard drive, graphic card and chip? I've seen some comments with people having problems regarding CPU(?) which I know nothing about.

I'm comfortable playing at least 6 tables cash but current laptop starts to lag at any more than 4 with nothing else open.

Any advice appreciated.

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend.

Was thinking £400, Mrs was thinking closer to £300.

Just found a HP, 6gb memory, 500gb hard drive with the i3 chip for £350.

Should that be up to the job or would something with the AMD or Pentium chip be better?

The i3 chip is ok. An i5 or i7 would be better but will be out of that price range.

I'm not a massive fan of HP gear though. Does it tell you if it has it's own graphics or is it shared ?

It's got the right ammount of memory though and the hard drive is a decent size.

Unfortunately these turned out to be collect from store only, and not in a store anywhere near me.

There's a fair choice in my price range with to be 4gb memory, 500gb hard drive. Is that enough? And do I take it from your post above that something with a specialist graphic would be an advantage?

Also, I don't need a huge hard drive for what I do, we have an external hard drive which we use for backing up so might a trade off of 6gb memory against 320gb hard drive be reasonable or would that affect performance in some other way?

No 320gb for a harddrive would be fine, especially if it means you gain 6gb of RAM instead.

I would say finding one with a dedicated graphic card with it's own memory would be better for playing poker.

I'll have a look around and see what's available for your price range and post them here.
