Firstly unless it is late on in a tourny try to avoid going all in as this limits your chances of getting people off a drawing hand and also will maximise any losses you take. The skill element comes from playing down the streets and making your opponent do what you want them to do, be that call or fold.
Secondly poker is about correct decisions and not hand out comes. For example if you are all in AA vs KK, then the AA will win 82 times out of 100, so dont worry if you find one situation that loses because overall it is the right decision to make. If you keep making the right decisions you will be a winning player, although in the short term you may be losing due to the variance of the game
Also congratulations on your first post on the forum, may there be many more of them
It's difficult when you first start off to realise that it's not all (or even mainly) about the cards that you hold and more about being able to limit down the range of cards that your opponent may have. This is the part of the game that once you get to grips with will bring you on leaps and bounds.
No quick fix to that one i'm affraid other than pay attention, keep notes and practice it in. every hand. When a player raises try and assign a range to him so yo could have noticed that he always raises from the button no matter what he holds then you can give him a wide range of almost any 2 etc. If the hand goes to showdown you can compare what he had to what you thought he had. Do this even when your not in the hand
Once you can assign a range to your player then you can take more pots on the flop, turn and river without ever getting to the point of having to have the best hand
My Advice would be to read some articles on position, starting hands, Pot odds & how to calculate them & assigning ranges to your opponents, luck will become less of a factor (although the game will always have massive swings of luck within it) with these skills at your disposal.
There are good threads on most of these topics in the forum if you go through it

I don't play on the high end cash tables, but from what you see on sky poker, the betters players tend to know when to play and when to fold, so I expect there is more skill at this level than further down the food chain.
PS WHAT THE PRIZE FOR THE CLOSEST GUESS
Just enjoy playing potters, if you dont enjoy it there's no point in doing it.
pokers a lot like life--innit!
70 o/o skill
30 o/o luck
rough guess,
play deepstacks,
less luck involved.
