A big thank you from me to all those who made Manchester a success and to the players who showed unfailing patience when met by a man with a notebook and a sweaty brow asking them for the sixth time in two hours if he could read their name badge!

Still, for Leg 2 I will know you all better!!

I've written a brief report of the event which is going out to Media, indeed is already featured on some websites, and will be on the SPT website. This wasn't helped by my managing to lose the first 200 posts of the live update along the way

*** SHAKES HEAD ***  and relives nightmares. Sigh.

Anyway here it is:

David Bryan wins the first Leg of the 2009-10 Sky Poker Tour

David "David36" Bryan won the first leg of the 2009-10 Sky Poker Tour at Manchester's G Casino on Saturday 7th November, beating Daniel "dantb10" Brown, who cashed in the 2009 WSOP as a member of Team SkyPoker, into second place. David beat 149 other players, who qualified on www.skypoker.com for as little as £2.60, to the first prize of £4,000 and also wins a seat into next September's SPT Grand final at DTD.

Play was exciting throughout, with participants hitting Quads no fewer than four times in the first few levels notably "Pancho" who rivered Quad Sevens to beat his unfortunate combatant who had flopped Jacks full and must have  thought he was about to win a huge pot. "TheDent" unfortunately bubbled the cash positions in a key hand where his Jacks were found to be up against "Bromley04"'s Queens and "OnlyOneCT", playing his first ever live tournament, with Ace-King. Both an Ace and a King flopped to send "OnlyOneCT" to the final as one of the chip-leaders, eliminating these two players along the way.

Also in the run up to the final "Dolly" was all in with pocket Jacks against the pocket Aces of "Kevin1968". A flopped Jack sent "Dolly" to the final, and left "Kevin1968" agonisingly short.

The final table line up was as follows, including top ranked Snooker professional Ryan Day and Mike "maggiesdad" Quinlan who went to Vegas in 2008 for the WSOP as part of the Sky Poker team of players:

Seat 1 Daniel "dantb10" Brown 47,400

Seat 2 Gordon "Dolly" Parton 108,600

Seat 3 Stephen Nelson 35,300

Seat 4 David "David36" Bryan 24,500

Seat 5 Kevin "AdAmi10" Gandon 57,600

Seat 6 David "Jaegerbomb" Pilling 59,900

Seat 7 Craig "OnlyOneCT" Tranter 165,600

Seat 8 Ryan Day 61,300

Seat 9 Mike "maggiesdad" Quinlan 197,400

Amazingly David Bryan recovered from being the low stack at the start of the final, and down to less than one big blind remaining at one point to win this event when, after twelve hours of play culminating in an exciting Heads-Up duel where the advantage swung towards both players Bryan, who was roared on by friends and family, was dealt Pocket Nines which hit a set on the flop to seal the victory over Brown.

The event throughout was played in a superb atmosphere and players can qualify to participate in Leg 2 at Aspers Casino in Newcastle on 9th January 2010 via satellites on www.skypoker.com which begin shortly. Please see the Sky Poker Lobby for details.

The full result was as follows

1st David "David36" Bryan £4,000
2nd Daniel "dantb10" Brown £2,600
3rd Kevin"AdAmi10" Gandon £1,800
4th Mike"maggiesdad" Quinlan £1,350
5th Craig "OnlyOneCT" Tranter £1,050
6th Ryan Day £900
7th Gordon "Dolly" Parton £750
8th David "Jaegerbomb" Pilling £600
9th Stephen Nelson £450

Also cashing, winning £250: Dave Burns, Kevin1975, Kevin1968, Mark Hall, Jenars, bromley04

Without meaning to sound really annoying...do you mean Dantb10 cashed on the 2009 WSOP?

Also, you said some got there for as little as £22, weren't the sattelites running for as little as £2.60?

(I want to make sure my facts are right for when I cut the SPT video!!)

    Richard.

    Hi guys,

Just seen this post, probably a bit late now but I had the Queens pre-flop and Bromley the Jacks when we got out-drawn and busted out.

Oh well, will hopefully be in Newcastle to make amends!!
