Tipping after live tourny win and kama

I've been playing poker for about 15 months now and when I play live I always go to the same casino which is usually about once a month to play the £12 freezeout. Rake is crazy at 20% but I enjoy it as a treat rather than as a way to make money. At the end of last year I went through a period of 3 final tables in a row (cashing once) and then in December I finally one a tourny netting a cool £98 profit. For five and a half hours play I don't think I'll be quiting my day job to take up live microstakes MTTs any time soon.

I left the casino very happy feeling like I'd just taken down the WSOP main event. I gave the money to my girlfriend in exchange for not having to acompany her to Swedish **** (Ikea). We needed some new stuff for the house (pots, pans new rug etc.)

Since then I have run so bad at this casino it's not even funny. Constantly getting into races early on and losing or just making terrible plays at the wrong time. I then read in a magazine that if you win a live MTT then it is standard practice to tip about 5% to the staff. Something which never occured to me, had someone have told me this was standard practice then I would have happily tipped £5 considering the mood I was in.

I'm going back there tonight. Maybe I should just come clean to the floor manager and say that I should have tipped and give him a fiver tonight. Do you think this will improve my run good mojo, which is very much out of whack at the moment. Or should I just hide behind the excuse of variance and be glad that I saved a fiver.

Does everyone else tip the room when they win a live tourny?

Its pretty much mandatory in a lot og live MTTs I play.  Just kind of an accepted agreement to take a small portion of prizepool out.

Doesnt happen everywhere, but is just kind of an industry courtesy.

If I were you I likely would tip the money when you go, just to get the odd notions out of your head at least.

But also:  Dont take flips early :)

Doing something for the sake of karma = instant bad karma

If I have a "Live" win, (or, more usually, a chop), I always tip 2.5%. If "business" is done, & several of us chop it up, part of the deal negotiations is always "who is leaving the tip, & how much?"

Dealers are on minimum wage, work unsocial hours, get abused by many intolerant & rude plaqyers, & are rarely praised. It is no big thing for us to leave them a nice little tip if the cards have been kind to us, & we binked a nice result. So THEY have a nice day, too. What's not to like about that, getting lucky, then sharing a little around?

    Unfortunately.......

Some Casinos, Grosvenior included, now take a deduction for themselves from Customer Gratuities. In these circumstances, I never tip. Instead, & to address karma, I just stick the same amount in the Charity Box.

It's completely wrong, of course, to think that helps as to "karma", but thats a two way street!

Thinking that not tipping can result in "bad karma", is rather like the players who believe there is a "withdrawal curse" in Online Poker. It makes no real difference, but, for most if us, it gives us a bit "feel-good".

And you can't beat "feel good" vibes, they are the perfect antidote to bad beat Posts.

Oh, nearly forgot - well done on that nice little run, jugglegeek, and on a lovely attitude to the gqme.

    You'll do just fine, Sir.
