Online Coaching Blog Session 1

OK, Guys,

I have finally got around to writing and posting up the Blog.  After the stuff that kicked off on my last thread about this subject (Which resulted in Sky having to close the thread), I had decided to just post a thread with a link to the Blog and hten close it immediately.

After things have calmed down a bit I have thought  a bit about this and decided to leave this thread open.  I would ask anyone who reads it not to post anything derogitory about On Line Coaching or my Coach. I will be watching this thread closely and if it get's out of hand I will not hesitate in closing it down myself.  Hopefully it wont come to that

If you think this is a waste of time and money then just remember... it's my Time and my Money.  I have started these Blogs because enough people have expressed an interest in them.  If you're not one of them fine.  But please leave this thread and my Blog to people who are.  I thank you in advance for that.

Anyway here is a link to the blog.  I hope you enjoy.

GL on the tables

Hey I'm paying for this ... get your own coach ;o)

Yeah it's a good Point you make Rob, If anyone is a little bit disappointed in the lack of detail, then yes sorry about that.

Thing is, you have to remember that Chris is a coach and for me to sign up to have him coach me then pass on everything he tells me to others would be, in my opinion, extremley dishonorable.

So, while I'll write the blogs, the content will be general. I can tell you this, after one session I am very pleased with my decision to work with Chris.

Great blog Jock, looking forward to future ones.

Yeah it's obvious why it would make no sense to divulge too much information A) because you're paying for it and we're not. and B) why would you tell us all the leaks in your game and how you intend to change, cos then we'd all know :P

nice read :) i had a personal coach myself too :) and we had the same issues where people accused us of working together and all sorts, can cause complications, but its definately worth it in the end :)

    Hi Pete,
I feel "slightly" guilty with the initial coaching/blog thread going Pete Tong as it was I who suggested that it might be nice to get the coachs view etc. etc. That went well! lol!
Anyways, really enjoyed the first session blog.
I wasn't hoping to get free coaching BUT I also recognise the K3/K5 scenario!  When I read it I thought "I do that!"

It would be nice for a "general" how you percieved coaching v the reality. (Poss too early to say?)
    e.g. Do you have homework?
Also, I know you are a rec player but do you have a medium/long-term plan for your poker? Ambitions?
    pad
p.s. You dont have to answer these on thread..next blog will do!

    Great read Jockbmw

Do you have an idea as to how many coaching seesions you will need/require/want?
imo coaching is a great idea and if my cash flow ever allows it, it is something i would definatly consider, also just the talking to other poker players about hands helps loads (something that is not possibe for me - and before anyone says it its not because ive not got any friends lol).

Good luck with your coaching and i look foward to reading your blogs

ah, sorry pete, what i meant was the same.

what i wrote was, "good read pete... careful not to reveal too much though."
what i should have written was, "good read pete... be careful not to reveal too much though."

my intention was too ensure that you don't give stuff away inadvertently.

so, good read pete.  be careful...(blah, blah..)

lol,  AH I get you now Rob.  Yeah cheers for the advise mate.  It's quite a tricky balancing act.  Making the blogs interesting but at the same time keeping it close to your chest.

Hopefully I'll be able to carry it off ;o)

Great read there mate. I love the honesty at which you thought of yourself as a player and your desire to better your game.

Hopefully these sessions will give you something that you can incorporate into your game to make you a better player and recoup the expense of this. My only word of advice is not to expect instant results from this because it will take some time to make all the necessary transitions and when you throw in variance it could be a while before it comes good for you.

Again good luck with these sessions and may it be profitable for you both.

i think it was always going to be tough with balancing out what u put in without giving too much away and what you dont, yet keeping it interesting. The blogging is probably harder than the coaching in many ways.

First off I thought I’d have a little ramble on about why I decided to use this method to improve my game.  Some of you may be familiar with the concept of the “Learning Ladder”. If you are then.. skip this bit. If you’re not I’ll use the example of driving a car to explain

The first stage of Learning is Unconscious Incompetence.

At this stage you can’t drive a car, but you don’t even know what a car is.  A newborn baby would be at this stage, or The Don

i see you to have the mental game of poker, gr8 book....gd luck with ur coaching...

Funnily enough I do have the book but I haven't read it yet.  I bought 3 books at the same time. Joe Navarro's book on Poker Tells,  Barry Greenstein's "Ace on the River" and the mental game of poker.  I am working through Ace on the River at the mo,  Mental is the next on the list.

I picked up the Learning Ladder info when i trained to become an NLP practicioner.  I'm not surprised it's in the book, I look forward to reading it
