How do you take shots at a higher level once your bankroll permits? Do you just sit down with 100bb and see how you get on? Do you top up? How many buy-ins do you set aside? And so on.
If you confident and winning at your level, for instance you probably wanna have £200+ to play 10NL, and if you're doing well at that for a long time and winning consistently then you might be up to £300-£400, so I'd just allow yuorself 2-3 buy-ins at 20NL knowing the worst that can happen is you lose 6 buyins for your current level which you can win back if needed. If you run well/play well, then enjoy it.
The important thing is that you must go back to the level you're comfortable with if you start losing quite a few buyins
One thing id recommending doing first is speaking to a reg whos recently moved up or that you get on with. Failing that watch a couple of tables when youve finnished a session at your current level for a couple of hours. This will help you work out who the big regs are. Now i wouldnt ever ask someone for names of fishes, if they give that information that take it but i wouldnt ask for it. I think i asked someone once and being honest they did give me it, but id never ask again.
As Lambert says you want 2-3 buyins comfortable without hurting you too much, we've all had bad nights at the office.
