Hi Tikay
Top of the morning to ya!
I've been learning on sky for 9 months or so and i'm enjoying the learning process and the buzz. Its good to set goals , not necessarily financial, and adopt a strategy to achieve them. Yes, we all like to win but having taken part in the forum for a while now(very informative and enjoyable too) i do see a lot of hard grinding with little variety in some people's lives judging by the amount of hours they must be playing.
So many are looking for the ideal poker strategy but i feel after probably years of playing some players seem to have their noses squashed up against the problem and not able to stand back and evaluate.
The word that's missing in posts is
FUN
Can't people be upbeat about their poker? It happens in another pastime of mine....golf. A took it up 10 years after a family tragedy occurred bringing on depression. A dr told me to learn a new hobby. I'd bought a bag of 'bats' and decided to learn. It helped me enormously and i've adopted that approach since. People stop enjoying it in a results fuelled world. I read a great book which said the real reason for playing golf was for the thrill of the feel of a shot hit well. I've carried that with me and love to play golf alone a lot but enjoy myself.
I watch your shows. In fact i switched on to you one day last june and now blame you for me taking it up more seriously. You and the gang made me as a novice feel welcome to the show and fun was promoted. I liked your attitude Tikay and soon i had my first poker book (Harrington vol 1). Ten books later, i'm still thoroughly enjoying it but making sure i have fun and introduce variety into my life too.
It may be that the thrill for some diminishes as experience grows and the 'seen it all before' mentality kicks in.So i ask your advice, Tikay.
How do i ensure that i keep my enjoyment factor high for poker in the coming years Tikay? Suggestions?
For that matter, may i ask you how you've managed to and whether there have been times when you enjoyed it less than others?
all the best

Ps For fun i wrote a bad beats post in the appropriate section("Jacks the lads or Messi?" love you to add a comment by the way) after catching a fairly unique set of consecutive all-in hands in DYM's i was playin whilst watching the Chelsea game. Do you have an instance that stands out for you? One where you said "wow, i need to add that to my poker stories".
PPS Wasn't John Terry a disgrace. No morals like so many in the football industry. The money makes cheating acceptable for some.

Post of the Week Proffy!
Love it.
Sort of singing my song, really.
I'm a little sidetracked right now, cleaning up some, umm, mess from last night, here & elsewhere, but I WILL reply soonest.

GREAT post Prof! I started playing poker about a year ago so still very much learning. The fun & variety is very much top of my list in WHY I play. I have "tried" to learn quite a few types of poker (I hadn't realised there were SOO many!) and I've found that this has kept my enthusiasm high. Membership of a team on Skypoker has also added to the variety aspect. I, like you, also am in AWE of TK in the enthusiasm he oozes! I'm convinced he's NOT human sometimes in the amount of effort/time he spends in advising/helping/smoothing/refereeing etc. etc.!!! Duracell batteries FTW!

People sometimes expect to win regardless of their hand when they should know that nothing is certain and that no one can know what the other person will do with whatever cards they are dealt.
Maybe they are playing beyond their means. If you aren't surely the game becomes more "fun"?
I know it doesn't feel like fun on some days, but that's true for alot of things - well, true for life.
again, great post
