So what do you do to keep the fun in your poker.....

Hi folks

I put a post on called 'there's a word missing here..' yesterday asking about how to keep the fun in your game. As a relatively new player, i'm sure the excitement can wane at times with more experience so i wanted to get Tikay's thoughts but now why not have everyone, with varying years of experience playing, to give their views on how they kept fun in their game from time to time.
It stemmed from a weird night's play while watching Chelsea(i'm an Everton supporter). There were some weird beats getting JJ 4 times in DYM's. Bit fed up so wrote in bad beats section 'Jacks the lads or just Messi?' and felt much better for it. It brought a smile to my face and was yes, you've guessed it, fun. So i wrote to Tikay etc.
Yes, i know someone will put 'winning sheds loads of money' etc but there must be more surely. It can be anything eg giving yourself a pressie once a month of an entry to a T that you normally don't buy in to etc
So what did you do in to keep it fun....................
it probably helps your poker too!!!!

Cheers for reading this and any thoughts you have on the subject.

Gl and have fun at the table...

Just playing things like the weekly DTD and the Hitsquad Donk-A-Fun for a bit of banter and a laugh keep the game fun for me, although I do love the game and just love playing any format anyway.

Sometimes if I fancy some fun, I post up on here asking if anyone fancies a £1 Omaha SnG cos I really enjoy the game but am just not confident in it enough to play regular and paly decent stakes.

The only fun in poker is when you semi bluff with a draw and it hits on river )

Or just get it in so bad and runner, runner, runner, runner WIN

Not so funny when it happens to you though

More fun in live poker, more sociable than online - feel like a robot playing online )

More than anything you just gotta laugh when the bad beats come, it does help.

One reason I have come to Sky is that in the other site I played at the tables have become quiet (unless its abuse).

One of my favourite ways to while away the time and keep it fun was to play 'name that tune' with my fellow players... give a line of a song, whatever the itunes shuffle has thrown up, for others to guess.. whoever guesses does next song..

Sounds a little cheesey, but it kept it fun, helped keep me occupied and helped my patience!!

Not sure it's ' fun ' or satisfaction?, it's when you get players who call every hand, with air, or players raising almost every hand, with air, when they get knocked out, it does bring a chuckle, a bigger chuckle if I'm responsible for knocking them out.

I play mostly live.  The "fun" for me is the challenge and testing yourself against players you respect & using your game to punish those that you dont :p

Also enjoy the human interaction, think is mostly why online doesnt do as much for me.

I defo dont find poker as much "fun" as I used to - in itself, but enjoy the things that come with it - the money/interaction/challenge as much as ever.

Started to try & play HU deep vs certain ppl live to put some fun back in.  Find I get a lot more enjoyment out of that than 6 max or full ring lately.

coming on here and having a banter about poker makes it fun for me. Love playing the DTD and having a natter with the forum regs and just being a bit silly and joking around on here. If i just played poker and didnt communicate about poker i.e brag about a win or have a little moan or going to AL's bar i think it would do my nut in. Of corse winning money makes it even more fun :)

I try to have a bit of a laugh by saying things to myself like "ha ha" and "he he"

If I'm in a good mood I give my opponents valuable strategic advice in the chat box--- like--- RUN AWAY!!!!!

Poker is fun for me at any stage live or online,You can sit in comfort at home and play poker and occasionally win a few quid !! But seriously, i have been called too layed back by many people, but when it comes to sport/competition i want to win but if you don't win be a gracious loser ! it ain't rocket science.Love any competitive sport. Its in your profile/make-up you either can deal with defeat and strive on ,or.... have a tantrum and throw your toys out of the pram and say its fixed and its all against me !!

The player at the table who had three jacks and complained it was unfair.
They said there was also two Johns a Phil and a  Peter.!    Never said they were good one's.?

    Hi Dazler

Yep, after a really gauling run of bad beat with JJ( four times) and some other hands involving domination, i wrote a bad beat epistle in 'brags, beats and Variance' section called Jacks the lads or just Messi? (i'd been watching the game). Like you say it felt satisfying to share and get a bit of banter back. It didn't feel so bad then. 'Talking' to others on the forum is good fun and its a win-win situation to my mind.. Cheers......may see you on a monday night on the DTD forum mind three tables is a killer for me.....

Any2suited mentioned being a gracious loser and i can't agree more. I've seen some stupid abuse on here and it can be really off-putting. Funnily enough, more for them probably, poker-wise. Let's agree to report them to Sky with time of incident and game number along with brief description. It needn't be aimed at you. Just at the table is enough. I do and make no excuses for it. If it takes the fun away then why do we need to put up with it? Case closed imo and its nice to know others agree.

Hi all, Online poker stopped being fun for me when I took it too seriously and lost some serious (to me) dough.
I stopped for a while but missed the game and now I play live for fun and a small amount of cash every Friday at the local club with friends where we give each other some "serious" verbal abuse! When bored, or it's a rainy day etc.. I'll play online for min stakes for FUN!

The good fold, the bluff win, even watching someone else trap another player... it's all good and makes me smile.

So yeah, why else would you play if not for fun (no offence pro player's)? When you stop playing for fun...it's time to stop.

Oh, and agreed, abusive players are so annoying, occasionaly it's funny, but usually I'm just pleased to see the back of them when they lose, which they almost always do!

    Good thread mate!

    Good luck all!
