Average pot size on Cash question

Just wondering with the Average pot size on cash tables do you prefer to go on tables where the average pot is big, average, or small size, and what info do you take from it? i take it that if its quite big then its more likely that players are very aggresive and more action happens so you have to be prepared for that. If its small i presume players are tighter and not much action. What other things do you look for when looking at this? and which tables are better to enter?

I always think one with bigger averages are better, because I only play micro stakes and it invariably means there's lots of idiots at the table getting all their money in with nothing.

However, the average can be massively distorted if 2 seconds before you look there has been a massive hand with 3-4 people all in so I wouldn't pay THAT much attention to it.

yea i kinda have gone with that myself but are there any reasons to go with small average pot size tables?

Im getting back into cash tables again and wanna start doing well at it, ive always favourd the cash tables live and generaly do well. I used to play high stakes a long while back but due to small br playing low limit cash at the moment, so its getting right info and mindset for playing it online again.

How far back is the average pot calculated over?

I tried a week on cash and went for the smaller, but not the smallest, size pots but as i got more used to it would find larger average pot sizes. I think stack sizes are more relevant. Any one with a stack size of say 2 or more buy ins I avoided. Average stacks and shortstacks were what I looked for.

yea i kinda look for the 2-3 pound mark of stack sizes but avoid the dreaded 80pers on 2/4p cash

I genearlly look at the average vpip before pot size. But I like to look for tables with small average pot sizes. If you have a table where the pots are generally small it is a good indication that the players there don't know how to build a pot. I've seen a few hands where two players get to showdown and between them they each have a set, yet the pot is less than 20BBs. People limping in pre-flop, then checking the flop to trap one another and then been scared to raise because they don't have a clue what the other player has.

My favorite is a player checking the nuts last to act on the river.

can't look at vpip on sky :s

imo average pot size means nothing - the players on the table are more important and will have more of a bearing if you win money.
