Hi folks,
Watched the last two tables late last night and am. I felt nervous for them. I was worried for MattBates, as the big chip leader, as it must have been easy for him to consider playing very conservatively.I've been in a big lead late on but made errors by lowering aggression to my cost. A cooler on the final table for him and my heart sank a little as he was overtaken.
There were so many big pairs v big pairs, Ax V AhigherX, all-ins. You know the ones where you either punch the air in expectancy or hold your breath and offer a prayer. (TommyD just presses the RUNGOOD button!). I actually felt nervous for them all and certainly the money involved for lower places didn't even, surprisingly, come into my grasping mind!
One thing did occur to me though. The game stacks flatten and when there were four players they all seemed to adopt a DYM attitude, correctly i feel, of all-ins etc. Did anybody else feel this too? It did seem like both places were up for grabs at this stage and just a couple of good hands would push any through. For such a big prize, i feel all the players handled themselves, as far as i saw, in a fair and gracious way. Well done.
I do agree with Borin Loner that people shouldn't discuss hands or tactics in the chat. It can upset or alter the playing style of plyers. Please let them make their own decisions. Do you agree?
Would it be worth Sky putting a note up 'by the rail in chat box' with a message with this sentiment?.....
Loved watching it though....maybe i'm starting to understand why poker is soooo exciting!!!! All the best...

I enjoyed the comments on the rail except for 2 instances.
One was when we were down to two tables and people were telling a player (I forget which one, they finished about 4th or 5th) how to play with his 10BB stack. The player had got that far and has paid their entrance fee so can play however they want.
The other was when we were down to 4 handed and someone said they couldn't believe I had bottled it. Everyone jumped in and told his/her where to go and I just thought it was funny. It didn't change my play although a few of the rail seemed to think it would. I played one hand badly against Jakally (77vKK) and lost a flip with AK v JJ against Kimpet. People thought I had already qualified but there was still a lot of play and if you nit up the players will realise this and will punish you and before you know it your chip lead will go.
Apart from that the support was really appreciated and all of the final table players were good players and wished everyone good luck etc.
As you said, a lot of the play was standard for a satellite in terms of short stacks knowing when to shove and then gap theory coming into play.

+1
Massive congrats to MB and Jakally, commiserations to the rest - saw most of the final table, was v.exciting with generally a v.gud natured rail.
Nice of you to get in touch. I'm new to the site and poker(just10 months). I was really chuffed for you though i haven't the foggiest who you are(i did have a little gander at your sharkscope and poker league to see how regular you were....surprised!!). I was only worried for you because i've failed to pull the trigger when i've had big stacks late in T's. Not that much lately as i've been getting earlyish exits but that's by the by! I was nervous for you as i was putting myself in your position and feeling the fear, as it were.
Yes, i do think some comments could be a little off-putting as you pointed out and yes people were trying to shut them up. A bit like "shutting stable door ....."etc though. I would have stuck a sticky note over it, i think but the rail is a great part of it. People just have to know what and what not to say. I did see great sporting behaviour though between opponents which is lovely to see. Maybe Sky should read the rail chat and send a personal but friendly mail to some who fail to recognise how their comments could affect/tilt a player in some way. I'm sure itdidn't but people should want to see good poker as a spectator and not have a bearing on its outcome.
I'm just so completely chuffed for you as i thought your 77 hads blown it for you. I went to Vegas last year on a three week tour of California, vegas and Hawaii. Played at the Stratosphere(so so to be honest). Try to play some good rooms. i researched it and thought the monte carlo(beautiful intmate, quiet room with original art on its walls, Caesars(just splendid), and Wynn's (very classy) were the nicest. Bellagio had a massive T on and looked like a meat market at the time i saw it.
Have you been to vegas? if so any favourites?
All the best mate, say hello if we table together. Cheers....
PS Need someone o carry your money in vegas?
My stats on skypoker are poor, I play a lot on another site and am quite profitable on there. I have never been to Vegas or even played live. I have reasonable online results, just over $100k in cashes so I have played a fair bit. I think I will try and get in some live play over the next couple of months to give me the best possible chance in the Main Event.
I will say hello if we are on any tables together!
All the best
Matt
In a funny way that's why i was chuffed for you but i'd guessed that you play on a different site mind. WSOP eh? Can you believe it and could you sleep last night...the adrenalin must have been flowing. I, by some miracle, won my first live tournament and was on such a high....that was for £250 or so !!!!! Did you feel too nervous at times?
cheers
Best of luck to you in Vegas, hope you have a great time
