Making notes...is there a best way? What do you do?

Yes, i understand the importance of itand yes, i have a fair idea of what to try to keep but how do you keep it HANDY, CONCISE and yet ADEQUATELY DETAILED. The sky note post can seem difficult to use at times in a game(especially when multi-T) and impossible when a player leaves or you've moved tables.

If you do yours  on paper, do you do them alphabetically to order them or can you use a prog on ur laptop to help this. I'm perplexed and, once my game and finances warrant detailed note taking, i'd like to try to do it in a way that will make it:

                    a) Useful
                    b) Easy to access
                    c) Not needing to be altered into some other form
                    d) Something which will build up into a working  asset.

Consequently, i want to do it properly first time and NOT have to change the stlye as i find problems with it. Hopefully, you can put me on the correct trail.

I even considered a tick box type system with a section for written comments not covered by it. However, it seemed complex and needs thought......hence this post

Are there some notes on players which are essential eg LAG/TAP etc

Any thoughts or advice would be gratefully received.

think its best to have a notepad/wordpad file for each player and put them in a skypoker notes file that you can access while plaing

So is this 'wordpad' prog on my comp and can i just copy and paste it to the sky notes at the table...that would be good as i could have it set out alphabetically to ease access etc...yes?
I appreciate the advice. I'll certainly be looking into it. TY

Software note box is bad, really hard to get a not written in because table keeps automatically changing focus.

Yeah it's a nightmare writing notes on the actual Sky software because it keeps moving with auto focus on the tables, and you are VERY limited with how much space you have. You can only fill the note about 75% full cos everything else gets deleted.

That's because there is no right or wrong way to make notes. Everybody does them differently as to what suits them best.

Watch some clips on Youtube and you will see plenty of people making notes in different ways.

You mean a word spreadsheet on computer? Or something printed out alphabetised? Is there an easy/easier program to use where a standard draft could be used with room for a comment or two.
Do you just use the Sky note or computer or paper? Excel spreadsheet or a Word one of some sort...details would helpas i'm unsure.

Sorry Acidman. You have the wrong end of the stick. I'm looking for the best way of alphabetising my notes for quick access and being able to copy and paste into sky. It may be something like wordpad. I'm looking for the best 'note. taker not what to put in them. TY for answering though...

Well the easiest way of alphabetising them is to do them in a spreadsheet, either MS Excel, or if you aint got that, you can download Open Office for free (just google it), it's basically a free (slightly more simple) version of MS Office.

Stick them in there then you can just sort by A-Z. Stick their names in column A, then have a column for different things, preflop action, how they play on the flop, how they play on the turn, how they play on the river etc. You're never gonna be able to copy and paste the info into Sky though because the note boxes are tiny and just cannot fit any decent amount of text.

spreadsheet is on the computer and you title a coloumn "player name" and place the players names in that coloumn - use the other coloumns for other information

if your playing me, then find "rancid" in the player name coloumn

So you can look up a player name from potentially a list of hundreds, during play? Surely, you haven't the time to do that, especially if multi tabling 6+ tables?
I like the idea, but i don't think i'd be able to make good use of them in the heat of the action.
    Do you have this problem?

Thanks Lambert and Rancid,  and all that have answered

I'm getting somewhere now. I've tried a spreadsheet( excel or word from office but tried to copy and paste one page of names from sky poker league but from a vertical list it pastes horizontally!!! OOPS. Any ideas how to get a full list onto a spreadsheet in the same vertical manner or is it just type, type, type as you come across players u wish to write notes on? Thanks though....i feel that i am getting there.....hopefully anyway...

open table - find player - if find = 0 then add player

if your multi tabling, then obviosuly you don't note as much

the spreadsheet I only use for REGS, randoms I just use sky's note box

Another tip is place the number of the player from the spreadsheet into the sky note box - easier to find and then you actually know you have created seperate notes

    enjoy
ps. serious note taking is a job in itself

as i'm only playing NL4 at the moment, i'm trying to get used to a spreadsheet for note taking. Which as you probably know, there isn't that many players you need detailed notes on. But, its best to be comfortable at the lower levels with this. i'll probably add more reggy type players to a seperate sheet when/if i move up the levels.
i'll probably leave the NL4 players to a seperate list then.
