Jumping up.....wrong/bad?

I've decided after winning about 35 buy-in's at 2p/4p in the last fortnight and profiting at it for a while that i'm going to take my shot at moving up.

Thing is, i always told myself i'd move up to 8NL but after trialling the 5/10p tables and realising how beatable i think these are already for me that i am going to try to make 10NL my new hangout.

I first learned to play in July last year, and quickly started losing on DYM's due to being generally rubbish and having poor bankroll management. I stopped playing and then discovered i was good at football sports betting. I made a lot of money doing that until i realised there was more money in poker because you were competing against other people instead of always fighting the edgeless odds.

So i came back to poker thinking i had a shot of being ok-ish at it.

Up to now i still don't play the game as others do. I don't think in terms of 'why's he betting this here' or 'what does this mean'. I try to get to know the players and then play their tendencies whilst having a 'feel' for whether i'm ahead or not and acting accordingly. It seems to be working consistently for me up to now and has been the last few months. Obviously when i get higher up the ladder my approach will need to improve but i think it's ok for now, as i know about odds and playing my position and selecting my starting hands very carefully.

Anyway, for the tl;dr:

Am i missing anything useful in an educational sense by skipping out on 8NL? Is there anything i need to be wary of in the step up to 10NL?

Thanks for reading my waffle haha.

Phil.

just play the same at NL10, don't bother with NL8

less tables and more tight regs at NL10 so be warned !

    Cheers rancid.

From what i've seen already this level is pretty appalling. Lots of limping lots of ridiculous calls, lots of bad positional play and some even worse bet sizing. The only real difference i've seen so far is the bigger reluctance to stack off. Maybe i've dodged the regs up to now haha but i'm pretty confident i can do ok-ish at this level. If not i've set myself a maximum of 6 BI downswing before i'll move back down and reassess.

If you're comfortable with your BR at NL10 then there's no harm at all in missing NL8 out.

Thanks everyone! And pod don't take this the wrong way but you're another person i'm glad to see the back of when you leave my table haha. If i was a professional i'd definitely be a 'bum hunter' (sounds a bit wrong that) and go for the weakest opposition. I think my problems may start when i get to maybe 20NL but that's an awful long way off as i plan to get my roll into 4 figures before attempting the next leap.

It's a boost to my confidence that people seem to be praising me a little bit too with posting hands vs me in the poker clinic and whatnot and saying i'm 'decent' so thanks!
