A poker hero's exit.

If you enjoy writing - really fine writing - I'm going to link you to a blog. If you can find a better written blog, I want to know where it is, because it must be good.

The author of it is Rich Stevenson, who used an unlikely alias on many forums & sites - "WarBwastard".

He was one of the original Members of APAT, back in around 2006 I think.

Not many of us were aware that he had been unwell for quite some time. He had cystic fibrosis, & had been attached to oxygen cylinders & all manner of medical paraphanalia for many months. Few of us knew.

On Saturday, he died.

He penned his own epitaph, & it's quite remarkable, what courage & bravery he showed. He never once complained, just carried on trying to write.

Instructions were left to publish his self-penned epitaph after he passed away, & it is the first item in the Blog linked to below.

Beneath it is a video, in which he says goodbye, thank you to his friends & family, & forum mates. He appears at the end of the video, signing off. Literally.

BEWARE - this is not easy reading, or viewing. Buy do try, & then maybe read some of his incredibly wonderful blogs. They do contain a few profanities, but I think we can excuse him that.

What a brave chap.

RIP, Rich.

In some ways, yes, but he was not sad, it was a release for him, & I think he'd be rather pleased with himself, & the dignity with which he coped.

    How true is this!, http://la-boca-de-la-cueva.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/keeping-and-reading-blogs-increases.html

I don't know. Too young to die, for sure.

Here's an interview with him, (Blandy is the interviewer) back in about 2006 or 7, filmed at The Vic.

I'd never seen his blogs before but i've just spent 20 mins reading and i'll read the rest over the coming days.

    He spoke alot of sense.

I've got a friend who has a daughter who is suffering with Cystic Fibrosis, it's an awful disease.

    RIP Rich.

Thanks for that link Tikay, very poignant and inspiring stuff and a guy with an obtuse sense of humour and the surreal. Characters like those are rare and the world is a better place with them around. RIP Sir.

You know what? Sometimes I am a pretty ignorant guy. I remember interviewing Rich at the Vic five years ago and I had come across some of his blog posts. Never put the two together.

You're absolutely spot on about his writing. Not over the top, not trying hard, just really entertaining stuff. Well worth a read if you have the time.

Cheers for letting us know Tikay, and RIP Rich.
