Hi all
Most of you probably won't be aware of me or have never seen my username. This is because I play mostly on pokerstars because I prefer the software and the range of tournaments etc... However I have used Sky Poker plenty of times and am a very keen fan of the 865 poker channel. I think the discussions and advice is very interesting and enlightening. Therefore I want to become more involved in the famous Sky Poker community. And the forum seems a good way of doing this.
I would regard myself as a fairly decent poker with a solid ABC game and a good understanding. I've watched a lot of poker on tv and played a lot at casino's and online. I discuss poker a lot with a good friend of mine, we'd both love to be pro's but have never had the bankroll or the big result to be able to do this. One of my problem's has been that I have only recently graduated from uni and I couldn't justify spending anymore than £30 - £40 a week on poker and still cant really, I much prefer spending my money on other stuff.
The point of this post is to provide you with a brief introduction. I aim to compose a weekly post on the trials and tribulations of your average poker player, and why it is we still keep playing and love the game when we get so frustrated.
Two weeks ago on my day off I lost £50 on pokerstars, bad beat after bad beat on 6 man sit n gos so I set myself a deposit limit of only $15 and thought I'd play one tourne a month with that $60. Low on behold when I deposited last week, I got the urge to play a $15 sit n go 6 players, I won this, then I won another two. Then I entered two six men and a 45 player, I won the 45 player and ad two second places. The next day I continued playing sit n gos and a bounty hunter. The bounty hunter had 150 entrants $27 buy in I made it to the last 15 with an above average stack was in the little blind with AK. Under the gun jams for half my stack with 66 folded around to me I shove and BB instant calls I thought oh gosh hes woke up with aces or kings but no he turned over 10 7 suited, so I finished 15th , the top 4 places all received big payouts first place was $700 so that was gutting. I find there is nothing more frustrating that losing to a totally illogical play, what the guy was thinking I do not know.
Anyway I managed to turn $15 to $400 in two days and I was starting to think maybe I can carry on like this and build a sizeable bankroll to move up the stakes and start making some money! Then as I'm sure many of you will sympathise with and probably expains why I'm not a serious poker pro. I played two $30 sit n gos. Lost in both, one through poor play and in the other lost with kings versus a flush. So I thought I'd play a cash game to win the money back, unsurprisingly I lost another $80 - So before I lost it all on tilt I quickly cashed the rest out. And I'm back to square one!
Anyway this was a very boring introduction for you all I'm sure. But to summarise I aim to start playing more regularly on sky and will post a weekly update on the struggling of your average poker player! I hope they will become a more enjoyable read than this brief poker history of myself. The posts are likely to involve a bit of theory and eaCh week's new plans of becoming a rich poker player!
Regards
And good luck on the tables

I'll read yours if you read mine. LOL.
If you can only afford a certain amount then why play such high stakes? (well they are for me!).
Do you feel that lower stakes don't satisfy you? It looks like you may be putting pressure on yourself.
I'm just a year playing and love it but i'm not playing with scared money. I don't play cash as its easy to bleed money in bucketfs. I play smallish sakes up to £5.75 BH and give myself a £20 limit for the night. Once i've lost that much then i stop.......
I look forward to seeing how you've ot on next week............now read and coment on mine!!!!!! Or else! LOL
Cheers
"hope u get witch soon"

I'm looking forward to this one, best of luck to you. To echo the other commenters discipline and sensible BRM are crucial if you're going to be successful at poker.
Tbh I play 'high stakes' cos I've played at casino's a lot where generally it's a £35 Mtt tourne or at a 25/50p cash table. I never play with scared money, I gamble with money I can afford to lose, but don't want to get carried away gambling a days wages online every week. And yeh the lower stakes don't satisfy me and without sounding arrogant I think my game is more advanced than low stakes hence how I cant understand when I see players limping buttons with ace 9 or calling under the gun with jack 10 off suit etc.
I saw you on the show recently and I'm sorry you didn't qualify. I have had no interraction with you until now but from reading the forum the other day and I think even the presenters had a soft spot for you it seems you are a well respected chap on this site! So unlucky, it was a fantastic and brave effort!
I do agree with you about online, I think this year I'm just about even, but probs £100 ish down if I'm being honest. Whereas at my local casino (Gala casino Bristol) I have won between £800 - £900 profit from playing MTTs and that is in I think 14 tournes where I have final tabled 6. And had some rotten luck in that, it really should be more. The standard to be frank is shocking and I find it easier to read players live. If that casino wasn't an hour drive away I'd probs never have bothered with online poker. But I get bored at home and love poker hence why I play online, I do need to adjust my online game and hopefully things will begin to turn.
I havent figured out if my best shot is to play 1 - 2 MTT's a week until I cash, which could bankroll me to play more than this or whether to play sit n go's or cash. I do struggle with cash online though in general. I have no formula at the moment, I have tried them all on Pokerstars so will just play it by ear I guess! And don't worry about my bankroll management I have a £25 weekly limit which I can afford and certainly isn't scared money
I must say I am enjoying this forum though!
