COPING WITH BAD BEATS

I'm sure this subject has been debated endlessly on the forum but, for what it's worth, I follow a 3 step strategy.

1. Remember it's just a game and I only play it for fun.

2. Alway play at level where any monetary loss isn't goimg to be a problem.

3. Finally, and most importantly, after a lifetime obsession with the fortunes of Plymouth Argyle FC nothing that happens on the poker table is ever likely to depress me.

Cheers all

Ian

Going out of a tourny to a bad beat is the best way to go out, id rather get my chips in as a big favourite and go out rather than get them in behind and go out.  If every tourny exit I had was a bad beat id be a happy man.

Talking of marriages reminds me of something I'd rather forget. Many years ago, when my sister was arranging her wedding she chose 2 o'clock on the first Saturday of the new football season when Argyle were playing at home. I consoled myself with the thought that if I dashed off immediately after the ceremony, I could still get to Home Park in time to see most of the game. Imagine my horror when 2o'clock arrived and the vicar hadn't shown up (apparently he'd written the wrong date in his diary). Granted my dismay didn't compare to that of my sister who had to spend 40 minutes circling the church in the bridal limousine while frantic phone calls were made , but I still remember sitting in the church fuming and checking my watch every 30 seconds.

The wedding eventually went ahead and the photographs were taken (if I looked a bit peculiar in the pictures it's because my arm was twisted up behind my back to stop me dashing off) and I eventually got to the ground in time to see the second half. The afternoon ended on a happy note because the Greens won 1-0 which is more than the marriage did because it ended in divorce but my sister got it right second time round by marrying an Argyle fan and she's now as keen on the Pilgrims as I am.

True story with a happy ending.

Read an interesting book recently about the mental side of the game and there were 5 points it said you need to understand when trying to have a good poker mentality.

    1. Poker is a game of luck and skill.

    2. In the short-term, luck is king.

    3. In the long-term, skill is king.

    4.  Poker is a game of small edges.

    5. Poker is a game of high variance

I got to a point recently where I put so much volume in I got so bored of the game - and wow it wasn't fun or good at all. So I decided to withdraw my entire br, basically because like the op I do think it's important you enjoy playing the game, we're fortunate we even have the opportunity to do something like this. And I used to think I'd like to play poker for a living, now I've realised... lol

Let's hope so, but after the disasters of the last three years I'll even settle for not battling relegation.

It goes without saying that taking 6 points off Exeter would be a welcome bonus.
