Was sitting in 6th when this hand came up and the money started at 40 and there were 44 left.

This was the first hand I played against this player.

My thoughts on the hand are this....

The player raises from the button as the BB is an away player so I think he is going to steal the blinds.  With Kings I think it is worth the 3bet.

On the flop with an over pair I cbet and when the push comes in I think that I am looking at AK or TT to QQ and he is looking to force me off the pot.  I think that it it had been KK or AA there would have been a 4bet pre.  With the 3bet call pre I did not put him on a 9.

Could I have folded this hand having put a third of my stack in?

Yeee you played it fine, just very unlucky.

Could maybe raise a tad more pre, to about 4400-5000 as you are out of position, but he's probably calling anyway.

Pretty bad call from him pre (in my opinion), but hes played it well post flop

    Hi Grae

I think i would 3x his raise and let him decide. With A9 he may have let you have it as he's thinking that he's  looking at a pair or Ahigher hand which he was. Once flop has come down comes down you can't really put him on a 9 but flush draw maybe.  i think you are correct to call and  just unlucky then.

People just run good sometimes. I saw it in a bh tonight where a maniac(correct poker term not intended to be defamatory) obviously had a strategy to do this from the off, see if he could get a big stack and railroad everyone. He had some amazing suck outs and you have to say it worked for him.....BUT how many times has it not, i ask myself?

Yeah difficult to credit him with a 9 in this situation. I guess I can semi see that he has callled with pot odds of 3:1 with postion and against a range you're not often much worse than a 3:1 dog generally preflop. So i may have raised a little more preflop, but that said its still pretty loose of him when other than A9x board or the one he got he won't ever be loving his hand when you cbet.

Thats just blurb above as you can't fold at this point I don't think, as like said so rare he has a 9 given the action and board having two. Far more often like you said AQ-AK or some other PP more common.

You must go broke here. There is no point nitting it up for a min cash, if you win this pot which you were unlucky not to do, you have enough chips to cruise to the last 10 and probably the final table where the bigger money is.

If you are thinking of folding KK in this spot, you will struggle to win or ft in mtts.

Don't think there is much wrong with sizing pre, would prefer a little bigger myself for value

Kam not sure A9 will have good enough odds v range when he only is guaranteed to see 3 cards
