I don't play enough live poker. I tried to set up a home game a couple of weeks ago. Four hands in our host fainted. That really put a dent in my profit for the night, as rather than play on the other guests were intent on reviving her. I think she was fine in the end.
The last time I played in a casino I ended up min cashing a £6 rebuy. That was good for £14 profit. Great in theroy, but the deep run had me just miss the last train from Southend Central back to Barking. Twenty pints and a new single ticket later, I was down on the night (in a big way).
My Uni has two poker nights a week, although thus far I have postponed making an appearance. Practically all of my profit in poker has come from MTTs and I'm not entirely comfortable risking a decent portion of my bankroll to sit down in a cash game.
Here's the plan: I'm going to spin up a starting roll of £11 playing S&Gs to the monstrous heights of £400, enough for 20 buy-ins of NL20 at the SU Bar. I'll be using an aggressive BRM strategy which will work as follows:
1. Start with 20 BIs
2. As soon as you have won the equivalent of 10 BIs at the next level up, you move up.
3. As soon as you hit 20 BIs for the level below, you have to move back down.
E.g.
You have £44 (20 BIs @ £2.20). To move up to the £3.30 level you need £44 (20 BIs @ £2.20) + £33 (10 BIs @ £3.30) = £77. You effectively now have 10 shots at this level. If after having moved up you fall back down to £44 you have to move back down to the £2.20 level.
I probably won't post as often as other diary posters, as I don't often have anything interesting to say.
Anyway, here's how I'm getting on:
Today went pretty well. At one point I was constantly getting disconnected heads up in one game. I decided the best course of action was to go all in or call all in at every available point to give me the best chance to keep my stack up and not be made to fold on later streets. I managed to win that one, getting it in bad twice. Probably a good sign of how I was running today.
Bankroll: £17.35

Why don't you just pay the weekly amount to play live poker. its more fun and less time-consuming/possibly expensive as if you start playing apprehensively(called 'scared money') then it won't be an enjoyable experience.
Grinding away for hours on a laptop is a pain, quite frankly. Why not just enjoy a bit of poker, see how it goes and enjoy university life. Balance is the key, mate. Good luck......
What is the casino in Southend like? I was thinking of heading there for a tournament or two. Am based in Upminster so trying to work out whether to head there or go into London to one of the London casinos.
GL with the spin up plan
Matt
I was going to go to Southend once but decided against it because someone advised me that, " after dark it is a bit like an 'I Am Legend' theme park "
gl on your quest and i eagerly await your next post despite the fact that it maybe a while
quality always beats quantity unless it's a Twix bar which seamlessly combines both.
well that's what scotty77 reckons anyway
best of luck m8,
