New Players

I have only been playing on SKY for about 18 months and for the first 6 months (playing mainly MTT up to £10) I recognised many of the same people and was able to get an idea of how they played and adjust my game to suit.  In the last year, however, there seems to have been a huge increase in the number of players new to the site and I am finding it impossible to keep notes or remember their style of play.  Is it priviledged information or can anyone say just how many players have joined SKY in the last year.
Anyway, welcome and good luck to you all.

Good morning, & welcome to you, too.

I would say that would be commercially sensitive Sir, though our traffic stats are widely available on trade sites, though not always accurate.

As anyone can openly see, though, the numbers, year-on-year, are up very substantially.

"How many have joined" is a bit misleading, for numerous reasons, but as a rough guide, year on year traffic is around 30% up, which precisely mirrors the previous few years, too. So yes, getting bigger & bigger, & doing so against the backdrop of a falling market.

With growth, of course, come growing pains, so it's not all tra-la-la & happy days, but we'd not swap it for anything.

Players come and go like shoppers in Oxford Street.  I see players still on the site playing who were in Free Play when I joined Sky and others who were established players now gone. We play and leave for various reasons and tagging comments on certain players is OK  but I never see them again and one's I do encounter have changed their game. ?   I would just like to remind Sky that not everyone play Poker to win money.?  Quite happy to shop in Oxford St,   bit pricey,  can I get the same at Brent Cross for 30p. !  Hugs Annie's  fwiw xx

Good morning Tikay and thanks for your prompt reply.  While I have your ear I would like to say how much I enjoy it when you are on the Poker channel.  As good as the young bucks are at giving poker advice and commentary, I still prefer your reminiscences, details of your hobbies and your philosophy about life in general.  Have you noticed how much coley and pollock they are putting in fish fingers these days.  Shouldn't be allowed.  As my old dad used to say... you have to strain the water before you eat the greens.
Long may you continue.  All the best.

This may sound a strange theory but aswell as the tv channel attracting new players to the site and the chance for everyone to see their hands played out on tv i think one of the major reasons is because we play in £s and not $s.

It must be so tilting playing on other sites and constantly trying to work out how much cash your up or down or have in play at a given time or how much a MTT is worth to the winner in real money lol.

Simple things make it a much better place to be imo

The older I get, the more mysteries life holds for me, but why ANYONE in this part of the world would EVER play in ANYTHING other than £££'s is a complete & utter mystery to me.

If we go into Tescos & they demanded payment for our loaf of bread in $$$'s or €€€'s I can imagine the answer we'd give them. Even more interesting would be what we would say if they gave us our change in some foreign currency.

    "Yeah, you'll be alright".

It really is a strange world, this Online Poker.

I have an interesting story about a new player. Well I find it interesting anyway. Some time last year there was a new player who's name was the the reversal of a pro player on here. It was Sunday night and they registered to play the 7-15 and 7-45 deepies and it was their very first games on Skypoker. He didn't just win both tournies he absolutely crushed them. I said to him it's all downhill now mate and he said I hope not I want to make some money and he has never been seen on the site since. It's often crossed my mind was it our pro player having a bit of fun?

Edited to say I have just scoped him and he played 5 games between 14 and 16 August and showed an ROI of 738%
