hi all im going to post this question here as i belive its the right place for it ( correct me if im wrong though ).

if your playing a hand of poker and as the hand progresses if you think you are ahead should you be trying to get as much money in the pot to hopfully win or should you play more slowly so you dont lose all your chips if it goes wrong??

il use this hand as my example

samkoh Small blind  20.00 20.00 2790.00

now when i played this hand i was 90% sure that i was ahead, infact except hitting a set i feel the flop was the next best flop i could have had. someone said that i played the hand badly, which may well be true however back to my question. Should i be putting as much money in this pot or any pot for that matter if i think im ahead? surly thats the whole idea of poker isnt it??

Hi Amanda, I posted a response in your other thread.

When you say you thought you were ahead, what hand did you put your opponent(s) on?  You should always ask what you're beating when getting all your money in.  If you believe you have the best hand and that your opponent will pay you off with a worse one then by all means get it all in.

people call with any two in bounty hunters, i figured was just facing over cards. except the 1 short stack, they all just call call call. even if i was behind to an overpair i had the outs to improve.

it must be a natural talent to be able to read other players hands coz i cant see how anyone can put a player on one hand.

If you are raising pre make it a little bigger, unless you think shorty will shove and you want to rejam. I would be very tempted to jam when action gets back to you, may be bad in a bh though. Limping behind on btn prob ok too

How are you sure you are ahead with two overcards to your pair and a possible straight on board. I prob just flat when they give you such awesome odds. Raising and getting it in is good if they fold better hands sometimes, not sure they will enough though.

im not 100% sure im ahead, but i think with it being a bounty hunter anyone with a big pair ( maybe any pair ) would have reraised pre. theres alot of very loose play in bounty hunters so i did feel confeident in my hand.

I dont like all the calls pre so if i was going to continue in the hand id of probably pushed all in! Arthur and gunn only call 40 so they cant have much of a hand and then they only call mcfc all in because he's probably playing any two cards and there after the bounty!?

On the flop with the straight possible if i was willing to bet 740 id of defo again been all in! Because when arthur calls he must have something? maybe A9/A8? then when the K comes it gets worse!

I think either shove pre flop or on the flop.

    What was the outcome?
