Hello everyone hope you all well.
Let me start by saying this post is not ment to have a go at sky poker.

I was playing a DYM last night and a player was having a go at sky, he was having a bit of a bad time at it, but we all do sometimes. One of his comments got me thinking, the player said sky look after new players, (drag them in to keep them) let them win a bit keep them interested.

I start to think about me, now i had a bit of a good run, low stakes bounty hunters, i finale tabled aproxx 10 times won one came second three times, and so on. from mid dec nothing.
I never given a thought about it till that chat post last night, but the difference between me and the one who posted this on chat is, i got to cocky i thought i cracked it, went down hill from there, took me three four months to get my head round what's wrong, this play i think he hasn't look at himself yet and seen what he doing wrong.

i stated playing to much, to many tables (4), could not concentrate on all tables, playing 2/4p, chasing cash 4 points, playing silly hands, i was having bad time, so much so one day had been hit so many time had enough, withdraw any Moines and said to myself never playing again, had few days off, started look at my hands, found most of the time it was my bad play, so decided to start again, now play 1 table low stakes DYM enjoying it again.

my point to this posts is, players should stop blaming everyone else, look at what thier doing, and you will find most of the problems starts with yourself.
I hope this post makes sense and i get a bit of response.
Glen

Yeah I hear people saying this all the time, about people running good when they first sign up. I think it's a combination of pure coincidence (I'm sure there's player of silent bpeople who just signed up and ran bad) and the learning curve involved in poker.

It's like with any sort of knowledge, you know nothing at first, then you learn a bit and think you know it all, then you learn some more and realise you've barely scratched the surface and have so much more to learn.

This is just my theory but I think generally when people are completely new they will make bizarre moves that can sometimes work (with a bit of luck in the short term) because their opponents are just baffled by what they've done. Then they learn a bit, realise they need to tighten up their opening range and stuff but don't know exactly what they're doing so end up losing, and some people go on to learn what they're doing and become a winning player.

couldn't agree more but in my opinion you don't stretch this to it's inevitable conclusions.

    1. then you learn that a lifetime isn't long enough.
    2. then you learn that even if it were things will change so much during that period that you pretty much know nothing anyway.
    3. then you learn that this is a central obstacle in the human condition and the massive majority of people are wretched, including yourself.
    4. then you learn that everything is rubbish.
    5. then you learn that it would be desirable not to care.
    6. then you learn why death is peaceful and the ultimate freedom.

gotta laugh eh ? it's only a game :) that's what my Zen Buddhist mate tells me anyway. but what does he know ?

Seen this theory on every poker site I've ever played on. Along with many other rigged theories that made about as much sense as coating yourself in vaseline to go rock climbing. Simple fact is that some new players will come on play badly and get lucky, and the others will come on and play badly and get what their play deserves by losing their BR steadly, or quickly depending on what they do with it.

See plenty of bad players new and old that some how sail through and MTT under a lucky star where they get smacked in the face by teh deck. Thats just poker, and we all have our days where the deck smacks us in the face, and days where it aims for your nuts instead. Just got to accept its a fact of poker live and online.

What's particularly funny is that while one group of conspiracy theorists are saying poker sites look after new players to keep them hooked - another group is saying they look after high stakes regulars because they provide the most rake.

Always funny when conspiracy theories contradict each other :D

I think that SP must have truly amazing software to be able to spot the new players.  How do they know if you are a novice new player or an experienced one?  Maybe that is why they are having some probs with it...

Or maybe some folk are paranoid or egotistical...

We all have good and bad runs whether we are new or old players.

    Onwards and upwards :-)
