I strapped myself up to a simple heart moniter and played different types of poker games over a 4h 40min period, here are the results!

Resting av. 65

Walking around the house 82

Walking briskly up the stairs 103

Average while playing poker 95

At the peak 130

I very rarely went over 90 in both H/U Texas holdem no limit (which is probably my best game) and a Omaha Hi-Lo Tourny (which I was because I wernt sure what I was doing!

The DYM was most stressfull very rarely dropping below 100

Even though the games I played were only between £3-Freeroll the cost did not to have an efect as my peek was surprisingly in the freeroll, the other was in a £2 DYM at 123.

The hand that got my heart beating most was raising with aces which happend twice and my heart went to 112 and 119!

    Hi S,

Unfortunately not.  To get any benefit you would have to exercise above 60% of your Maximum Heart rate (MHR).
For a 48yo male with a resting heart rate of 65BPM it would be (roughly) 175BPM.
    On this basis ...
    Easy Excercise = 60-75% of MHR = 131-147
    Aneorobic Threshold (Heavy Breathing) = 85-90% = 158-164BPM
    Vo2 Max (cream crackered) = 90-100% = 164-175.
So you see your max at playing poker is just below the 131 classed as easy excercise. ;-)
On the plus side your RHR is below the national average of 72.  Piece of trivia, lowest RHR for a sportperson recorded was MIguel Indurain (Cyclist TdeF) of 28!!!

If you have a wireless lappy I'd suggest walking up&down the stairs whislt playing.

Oh and yes I am that nerdy!

Then you end up in A + E for falling down the stairs after your Aces get cracked :D

    Brilliant information.
But walking up and down stairs while playing poker is not a good idea for me as I have Vertigo and need full concentration just to walk about!

I dont think that would be allowed on here! Plus a privet leaf would be more than adequate to do the job!
