its not as simple as most of you are trying to make out, god i wish it was but it is tough stopping yourself from going to sky vegas, nobody is trying harder than me to stop myself from going to a place where i firmly believe it is impossible to win over a period of time, i am good friends with a betting shop manager and he tells me that the roulette machines in his office are the only thing keeping him open, on average 1 machine makes £800 a week, now that tells me as same as what online roulette tells me, they are fixed, for me that is a certainty!

You have my sympathy Webby, you really do.  I have had the same problem with losing large amounts at Sky Vegas and have FINALLY, after over 3 years of constantly losing any poker winning I might have made,  managed to go cold turkey, but it hasn't been easy

Webby, from some of the earlier responses you've had, from people that seem to know you well, it's pretty clear that the answer is: You have no idea what you're spending, winning or losing. It also sounds like money isn't particularly abundant for you. This is very serious.

The first step, is for you to fully understand where your money is going. As FlashFlush has already stated; make up some simple spreadsheets and track all of your expenses. Treat it like a business for a while... if you play live poker, then even factor in travel, petrol, parking, etc. If you don't like Excel... well, even some mobile phones have simple accountancy/cost-tracking sheets. If you can't do either of these, then keep a simple written list. But be honest with yourself and commit to keeping it updated rigidly.

But whatever you do, get it down in black and white and review it daily. Understand where the leaks are, and whether you have a problem. Only once you understand that, can you begin to fix it.

Who knows, if you start to to treat your past-time like a business, it may 'up' your game and make you consider things even more carefully.

Taking up smoking again is not the answer. I don't mean to sound pious here; but replacing one addiction with another, rarely makes any sense.

It's going to mean changing your habits, which won't be easy. How about replacing your Sky Vegas leak with... I dunno; free online games, Facebook applications and games (with fake money but real players), or something else that will occupy you in a more constructive way. At this point, I should obviously be suggesting you join a gym and 'eat your greens', but I'm not quite ready to turn into Cliff Richard just yet.

Seriously, it sounds like this is something you really ought to be addressing properly. It sounds like a problem.

    Best of luck.

    Hi Steve

It sounds like you have went through a tough time getting away from losses at sky vegas, and i congratulate you on your success in getting on top of it.

For webby, if you are losing so much money at sky vegas or sky bet, and are unable to abstain, then you really do need to get help with it. It may be worthwhile looking at the self-help tools in the responsible gambling section at the bottom of the  page if you havent already done so.

    Good luck mate

I think you ought to seek help... if you cant stay away from vegas etc then maybe you should give up poker as well. If you cant deal with the bad beats etc then you will keep being tempted by vegas. You really need some self-control here and just force yourself to stop gambling and concentrate on poker if you are winning... or was it just 1 tournament? your sharkscope graph is more important than stats... anyone can win a lot but its the long term that matters, i doubt Darvin Moon grinds out a profit although he must have an amazing ROI now.

In Response to Re: where am i going wrong? : Can't argue with that - if you've won that much from poker but have so little to show from it, you should use these stats as massive wake up call to avoid Sky Bet/Vegas at all costs! We all experience tilt but just walk away pleased in knowledge that despite losing 'x' amount through bad beat, there's plenty of players who would love to have those stats! Tikay always says the players he respects the most are those with excellent BRM and yours seems non existent - losing £10 on poker and then betting £10 on RED trying to win it back isn't good practice so just get some self discipline rather than wanting self exclude button!

Just put a quid on red and a quid on black... u can have so much fun seeing that wheel spin until it hits green... at least you will only lose 2 quid every time it lands on green but it should curb your vegas losses.

all of this does make sense to me and as a young kid i always got told i had no respect for money,  this is still the case unfortunately.

i just cant get involved with bankroll management for some reason, it would take the enjoyment away if im being totally honest, i like to gamble with my last few quid and really go for it even if it does last for only a second.

I do know what roulette tables, blackjack tables slots etc can do to honest hard working people, they will destroy them, there is a chap who goes in the bookies which i have been going in since i was 16, he is around 70 year old and used to love a good gamble and had a few good quid, used to gamble around 2k a week on the horses and dogs, as soon as they put the roulette machines he tried to play on the bingo just to try his luck and soon got attracted to the roulette, he has lost every penny he ever had and is current bets are now 50p reverse forecasts, but as soon as he gets upto around £20 he will just put it in, and i always say to him, you cant win on them things jim, they will take your last breath and he always says "i know lad"

A mate of mine who knows his stuff has told me they are objecting to the machines being in bookmakers and are hoping to be successful and get them chucked out. i don't think they will chuck them out because they take too much money, but here's hoping that common sense prevails and they burn the lot of them!!!

i'm on the road to recovery until the next time lol

thanks for the support guys and hopefully it wont be in vein

Unfortuantely, I know a fella that lost his job over the roulette tables.

Embezzeled 48k from his employer, ended up trying to kill himself and his wife and kids left him.

He then had to sell his house to pay his employer back to stop them going to the police. He had a superb job, ended up working for his brother as a labourer.

I hope you are only spending your Skypoker winnings Webby. These things have a downward spiral.

Either stay off there or keep a spreadsheet to see how much you win at poker or lose at vegas, it looks like your sharkscope figures shocked you, so you obviously know how much sky bet have took off you.

Those sharkscope stats are impressive. Shame Sky has had it all back. I bet (not the best phrase) they love you.

I also think this explains your hatred of bad beats.

Really Webby, try and draw a line under everything. If possible, and you are a subscriber, reset your sharkscope stats and completely start afresh and you must keep an accurate record of your wins/losses.

You are good at poker, your figures tell us. Instead of going over to Skybet, Stick to what is profitible.

You don't play sky bingo as you know you may as well burn fivers. Bookies know long term there will only be one winnner.

I would hate to lose someone like you to this.

    Webby,
Take it from someone who knows if you are going to continue to play these sites you need to manage your bankroll.

My advice is withdraw all your money bar say 50 quid and that is your line, go over it and withdraw go under and even lose the lot use the tools so you cant deposit any more for period of time.

Dont play so much poker as the more you play will make it tedious and you end up hitting bad beats a lot more as you/we know, then you look for something else to give you a buzz ie sky vegas and bet etc.  Plat for quality and enjoyment.

Also try and not critisise players when you lose or consider their play inferior as I have been on 10 pound STTs  with some players not long after you have played them and they really have you down as somebody that bites and they play on that as a weakness when they play you.

All the best anyway hope you sort it out.

One other thing forgot to mention , after my problems I have an additional safeguard which is a bank account for poker only with a certain amount in it and basically if your online safeguards go down the tube then your bank wont allow any additional deposits which gives you that thinking time.

    xx

this is what i dont understand, i'm not really sure i have made that much money off poker because i'm very rarely flush with the cash, on my cards it shows that i am in profit of around £360 since i joined skybet. have a really won all that on poker and probably lost it on sky vegas or skybet then? are these stats 100% correct and if so, lets get a button that bans me from vegas, i could be quids in at this game!
    Posted by webby234
you are a winning poker player, the stats are telling you that.your problem seems to be that you are spending your winnings on sky vegas (a mugs game imo).
i started my poker account with £100 and have always kept it separate from anything else.apart from spending some winnings now and again
