Sit and Go Grinding - BR advice

Hi

Im currently "teaching" a friend of mine to play NL Hold em. Ive watched them play a few SNGs (mainly scarys but also regular SNG and a few DYMs) and decided that these games might be better for her style of play than cash games.
What would you say a suitable BR would be for someone looking to grind these sorts of games. I personally think she should be sticking to £1.10 and £2.20 buy ins at the moment (Total BR is approx £500). A supposed "pro" at a cash game has told her to play £10 Buy ins which I think isnt enough but I may be wrong!
Are there any regular SNG grinders out there with a view? The main thing I want to drum into her from now is BRM as its made the biggest change to my cash game

When I first started out grinding at poker I was playing 18 man SnGs. Obviously more variance to it, but I went with 100 buy-ins rule - so if I was playing $5 SnGs I would need a roll of $500. That's probably a bit too nitty for someone who is playing 1 table ones though, so perhaps 50-60 buy-ins would be fine (especially if DYMs are going to be the bread and butter).

Fair enough. I think Im gonna keep her at £1 and £2 SNGs for a bit just while shes still learning and then get her to move up. Just out of interest though, why are Scarys and Regular SNGs so unpopular here? I really enjoy these as theyre really well structured for what they are (a slow tournie and a super turbo). I really need to get back on grinding SNGs as well as Im a winning SNG player but a losing MTT one :(

You know what? I can't tell you why... DYMs are the most popular form of SnGs on here and they're a solid way to improve both your game and bankroll. I'm a big fan of a good ol' SnG though myself :)

Im not a fan of DYMs. Just doesnt feel like im playing Poker. More like a who blinks first contest. I can see how they help improve bankroll but I prefer normal STTs for improving my game. The only time I play DYMs is if Ive taken a few hits or if I start getting overconfident; I find DYMs a good way to sit back and remember the art of folding. Are there any ideas or things in the pipeline to try and rectify this void (maybe a promotion of some sort - I dunno something along the lines of win 6 in a row and get something or other?)

I don't think Sit and Go's are particularly unpopular. The lower volume on this site than the "big" site simply means that they fill more slowly as anyone looking to grind in them is going to be on that other site. Sky suffers in comparison as a result.

I used to grind them and always looked at having between 50 and 100 buy-ins. If I dropped below 50 (which didn't happen, lol) I'd drop down a level and vice versa. You've got to be a winning player for that, though, and if your friend is a pure beginner she should just learn the game at the lowest buy-in and move up as naturally as her game improves and her bankroll increases.

Sng reg here. It definitely depends what blind format you are playing and your expected winrate. If your close to break-even, you'd need more buy-ins than someone who crushes the games because your variance is inevitably higher. IMO 40-50 buy ins is being very safe DYM wise. For scary and other stuff, I'd say 100+.

nice graph Pat :) might rail a few of your DYMs just to pick up some pointers. Most of my SNG losses are DYMs as I eventually run out of patience and start shipping everything on the bubble lol.
