We'll try and show this hand in the poker clinic on thursday night
Andrew1947 would you do a 1 on 1 poker school what I mean is you play and I sit behind you and you do running commentary on why you play the hands you do?
Thanks for showing that ....... couldnt believe he called but fair play thats poker and I cant say ever I've made calls similar to that and got lucky ....thats poker .... having said that I do need a hug ...............and nearly needed a new lap top !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the messages tonight. Congratulations to: Aussie09 Who won free entry into the 12K Sky Sports Bounty Hunter on Thursday (6th September) @ 20:00 Posted by Sky_DanB
Really enjoyed the show last night but thought I would comment on the hand of mine you showed when I hit lowest card (a 3) on flop & called (small) raises to river when I got another 3.
Everything you said was exactly correct but when you have been playing the same people on the table for some time you get a feel for their play, I was convinced the other guy had nothing & was trying to knock me off the pot with air (although as usual I got it totally wrong & he had hit the Jack lol)
But in isolation I did play it badly & did get lucky.
Having got lucky I did think I value betted the river perfectly to get the most I could out of the hand. Sometimes you can play it badly but then once you hit play it really well for the rest of the hand.......but you didn't mention that (or didn't think that)
So once again, great show & I hope you don't mind me mentioning the whole picture, not just the bit of the puzzle seen when you take the hand in isolation, cheers guys

Fair comment, Macmonster, although I think we did praise your play from the point where you hit the other 3 on the river.
But the point you make is completely valid that you were playing the player rather than the hand because you had a feel for his play, having sat with him for an extended period of time.
On the show we're always careful to say that no hand is played or can be truly analysed effectively in a vacuum, and previous history/current context on the table is a major influence on how a player acts in a hand.
I hope you can appreciate though, that whilst we acknowledge the difficulty on the show of not knowing the previous play on the table, there is ultimately nothing we can do about it and thus we have to work with what we have in front of us.
Also, we never really criticise a player, we often question the play but in a way that's aimed to help them or at the very least help to educate the viewers.
Really the best way to counteract this is to write in, as you have, providing a bit of context and explaining why you made the play.
I'm always happy to clarify and read out any player's responses to our analysis on the show. Obviously, if you can get it in pretty soon after the hand has been shown then I can read it out on air during the same live show.
Thanks for putting in the time to write your post. I appreciate the feedback and I hope to hear from you more during the actual shows. Oh, and finally...nice catch on the river ;-)
