TOO MANY BOUNTYHUNTERS!!!

Although I haver been a member of Sky Poker almost from the very beginning, this is the first time I have ever felt the need to post on the forum. In my opinion there are now far too many bounty hunter tournaments and less and less "proper" tournies.Although the BH tournies are good fun they do not promote good tournament play.I believe its time we went back to having decent tournaments with a good structure and knocked a few of the BH's on the head.

Welcome to the forum, please feel free to introduce yourself on the thread called 'New to the Forum?'.

I know what ya mean, and I'm not a massive fan of BHs but there is definitely a skill element to BHs, you just have to adjust your game to the people who are alot more gambly, especially in the low stakes ones.

Thanks for the welcome but it seems you have missed the point.I know that the Bh's play different.I have played in many of them. What I am saying is there are far too many.To be frank they are little more than shovefests and not "real" poker tournies.

    Hi Hubzter

I am new to Sky Poker but played on other sites for years I feel the are plenty of tournaments for everyone on Sky there are DYM’s Timed and all the sit and go’s and even the speed and not forgetting cash ones just sit and play one of each and see how you go and play the best one that suits you best

Why do you want to promote good tournament play?

Agree there seems to be a lot of bh compared to regular freeze outs

    Hi Muttz.
I have played every tournament available on Skypoker but i feel that you too are missing the point.Just take a look at the tournament lobby and see how many bountyhunter tournues there are compared to a similar buyin freezeout. Its ok having a £33 freezeout at 5pm but why not have similar tournaments later in the evening. The tournament lobby is full of £5.50 and £11 Bountyhunters in the primetime slots but no equivalent freezeouts

I have even won a few bountyhunters but I dont consider them to be traditional poker tournaments.I am seriously considering quitting SkyPoker until they bring back more freezeouts.I have noticed the drop in numbers logging on to the site.Could the lack of reasonable buyin freezeouts be a contributary factor?

Here on Sky Poker Bounty Hunter tournaments consistantly attract far more runners than freezeouts at all buy-ins from £2 to £100. Whether you like them or not Sky are giving the punters what they want, the number of Bounty Hunters in the tournament lobby is in good proportion to the demand in my opinion.

Or do "punters" play the bountyhunters because there is no alternative?

Not sure if there are 'too many'. They are a rip off at increased rake at low rates, they are undoubtedly promoting poor play, cos at 2.30 for instance people seem to think it makes absolute sense to win 75p heads by risking 2.30 buy ins with trash. The point I think is, regardless of how many there are, there is a need for choice and a decent alternative. There needs to be more freezeouts at lower stakes with proper structures, let the Bounty Hunters stay but lets have some more choice.

Well, it's easy to test that.

I've just had a quick look at the MTT lobby, I see there's a £2 Bounty Hunter starting at 2-15pm this afternoon, then a £2 freezeout just 5 minutes later at 2-20pm. So the punters who have £2 to invest in an MTT at that time of day have a clear choice between the two formats.

    It could be argued that the freezeout is more attractive because it's raked at 10%, whereas the Bounty Hunter is raked at 15%. Anyhow, lets see what happens. As I post nobody has registered for either game, Here are the lobby URLs;

    2-15pm £2.00+30p Bounty Hunter  https://www.skypoker.com/secure/poker/sky_lobby?action=go_tnmt_lobby&game_id=6829008&guid=8e26db3e-d00d-47fc-afd4-602e4f1ce6fb

    2-20pm £2.00+20p Deepstack   https://www.skypoker.com/secure/poker/sky_lobby?action=go_tnmt_lobby&game_id=6829031&guid=8e26db3e-d00d-47fc-afd4-602e4f1ce6fb

Why do bounty hunters have 15% rake?

agree with op regarding too many bh and not enough freezeouts. STD freezeouts, like, 2/3K chips 10/12/15 min blinds.

Just for the record; while I'm happy with the ratio of BHs to FOs here, I completely agree with those posting about the 15% rake on BHs. I've grumbled about it here many times in the past.

I've gotta say though, I don't see this changing any time soon, supply and demand is in effect, the BHs are so popular that they still attract healthy fields despite the 15% fee.

Agreed.  Why not have a couple of £300 & £450 Guaranteed Freezeouts ~£2 and £3 mark with starting stack of 2.5k-3k chips and 12-15 min blind levels.

Every evening there is simply too many b/h.  Keep the £500 & £400 b/h but add in two Guaranteed Freezeouts aswell.

Oh and please change the payout structure!  It seems on most of the tournaments if you make it to ITM it seems that you get less than your total buy-in, an example was the Super-stack yesterday at 3pm whereby 11-20th place paid out £10.70 when the buy-in was £11.

I must admit, I would personally prefer to see more freezouts but Sky are just catering for what the majority of players want and Sky Players seem to love a bounty hunter!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post your responses. Can we not have a decent "primetime" freezeout tourney?Anything from £11 to £33 buy in with a decent structure starting anytime from 7.30pm to 9.30 would ,Im sure,be well supported. In the meantime I think I will give the bountyhunters a miss and go play my freezeout tourney poker elsewhere.
