The SPT Grand Final Dead-Live Stream.

Good morning.

It was not possible, given all the work that SPT Rich & others were doing at the SPT Grand Final, to explain the problem properly during the weekend.

The Company that provides it pioneered Live Streaming of UK Poker Events many years ago, they do almost all of the UK Events, in fact until recently they had a near-monopoly of the market.

Despite the vagaries of local & often unreliable wifi, "dead spots", & all manner of technical challenges, I don't ever recall them failing to deliver a Live Stream.

They use a lot of technical kit, but it is driven by, & feeds through, two computers, being the primary one, & a back-up.

This weekend the motherboard on BOTH computers failed, quite inexplicably. It is hard to imagine why that would or could be, & if it was in some way connected, but the odds on it must be huge, & it has never happened previously.

It was just not possible to repair either computer on site, & so that was that, no Live Stream.

Sky Poker carry the ultimate responsibility, of course - "the buck stops here", but it was just one of those things.

We pay them a fee per day/Event, & this was all agreed in the normal way.

Bit of a disaster for everyone really - they incurred costs & lost revenue, & our would-be viewers were denied the Live Stream.

Such a shame, as it was a cracking event, & one of the best, & most entertaining, Finals we have ever had, the lads played fast & furious, & the poker was of a very high standard.

Anyway, apologies all round.

Thanks for the detailed explanation & apology Tikay. Yes, it was frustrating for the folk not there, but technical faults do happen and this appears to be the case here.

Did Sky Poker get a refund then?

Hopefully, the SPT coverage show will more than make up for our loss of the live stream. I will look forward to viewing this then, and I am sure that Anna & her team have done the usual good job of it.

It will be up to Sky Poker & the Stream providers to agree what to do as to payment.

Payment is generally made after the Event, upon receipt of an invoice.

This is both unfortunate, & awkward for both parties. Their guys turned up, & incurred Hotel, travel, & wage costs.

However, they failed to deliver what they were contracted to provide, so they have no entitlement as such.

Given that both parties enjoy a good working relationship, & want that to continue, I would imagine that a degree of common-sense negotiation will ensue, & it will be sorted amicably.

It was all most unfortunate. "How do these things happen?", as was so often said in  Harrison Keillers's wonderful "Lake Wobegon Days" radio broadcasts & Audio Books.

Anna, Dan, Adam, Matt, Dan (2), Joe, Rich Prew, & everyone else worked very hard, & hopefully the SPT Show will reflect some of that.

Rich Prew, ("SPT") in fact will be on this Thursday's Show, when we will announce the full details of the 12/13 SPT Tour.
