    Don't buy an Acer.

I'll have a look at some specs later for that price region.

I don't really follow laptop specs too much but I'd say an i5 processor, 6Gb RAM and a separate graphics chip as a minimum.  If it says integrated graphics or something similar I'd swerve it.

I've had to mend 5 friends laptops this year. All of them Acers. I still don't find the build quality that special tbh.

As Machka said, go for an i5 or i7. Try and get a dedicated graphics one. 6Gb+ of RAM would be ideal but this can be a corner that can be cut to keep in your budget. You can add more RAM later, you can't change the CPU or graphics later.

dell refurbed laptops are pretty good value imo  (go to http://www.dell.co.uk/outlet/ ) not Dell main site. :)

As this post is already up, i may as well add on.  Im also looking for a new laptop.  What do people think about the macs?  worth the money?

macs are great, not neccessarily for lots of pokering though.

if you only want to play a few tables, and want a good portable computer for lifestyle use it's great. not the cheapest on the market though, you have to pay for design like that.

i only play 2 tables at a time.  Thinking about the pro but cant decide whether the i7 is worth that much more than the i5...

I personally would wait for this to drop into your price range in Jan/Feb

But then if your gonna wait for that and only use for poker your prob better off waiting for some higher res laptops fade in price as well

I'd personally advise you to wait until you can afford either of those two.

Having dedicated graphics is a big help the more tables you're playing. When it's intergrated you're using some of your systems resources to power the graphics instead.

Like I said earlier, it's not something you can change later.

if u r only playing 2 tables, even up to 8/10 maybe more,i don't know.i would say i5 is plenty good enough.
i payed the extra 4 the i7 earlier this year (£580 all inc with dedicated graphics card) because i wanted to play a lot more tables, about 15 atm.
    hope that helps.

Yeah some great advice here for you.

Though I don't think intergrated graphics are that bad especially with i5/i7 chips - as you get Intel 4000 built into them - which is good enough to run 2000/2008 era games easily. And if you think about it poker tables are no harder (or graphically intensive) for a PC to "make" than say a web page, for example.

It's the amount of ram and processor that will make the difference here.

Also try and go through a cashback site (like Quidco etc) as you can save at least 2.5% too as much as 15% and they're really not as much hassle as you think they're gonna be.

yo, just a little update - eventually spent some of my pokerz money on this little thang
Thanks for advice above, was a struggle to find 1600x900 resolution with dedicated graphics below £600.
Went with the Inspiron 17R, i5, 6GB + dedi GC

Arrived yesterday, run 9 tables with ease. Even though 6 tables sit on the screen nicely, 9 tables do overlap but at least it's good to know it can run more.

So now I get to watch Eastenders and play 6 tabling pokerz, love the digital age :D
