Live rule new to me and made no sense

I tend to play live once a week but itsusually pub level stuff nothing fancy. Last night i headed out to my nearest casino driving over to Luton. Was playing a 1/2 cash game alot bigger than i would normally play but is christmas so thought i would treat myself. As i menetioned i play live regularly and have done for about 3 years never before heard of this rule.

Its 1/2 and a straddle in play im 1st to act after the straddle (not sure if that makes me UTG with the straddle and all) as i retrieve my cards i accidently flip 1 over DOH! its a king of spades. The cards are both behind the line of play and i am told by the dealer that i cannot make any aggresive action in the hand. I look down and see another king. So i am forced to flat multiple players come along flop is pretty wet straight draws and flush draws galour. Straddler leads i try and pop it up and am told that the no aggresive action wasn't just preflop its througout the whole hand. I have now effectivly shown my hand completly forced to check behind 2 streets luckily hold and win a small pot.

Has anybody heard of this rule before as far as i can tell the only advantage is to my opponants who now know 1/2 of my hand. As far as i see it the cards are accross the line and are mine to do with as i will if i so wanted i should be able to turn both cards (not that i ever would) to judge my opponants reaction. This isn't putting anybody at a disadvantage why am i being penilised for a mistake that benefits everybody else? is this a common rule as i hae never heard of it before but i suppose this situation doesn't happen alot.

I once flipped over both my cards in an mtt at Luton (on the flop) when my opponent had called and I thought i had him covered...  but, we both still had chips behind!!

So, the ruling was that I could not make any aggressive action when the flop/river was dealt. Luckily for me, my opponent was none other than Mr Hitman Harvey, who checked it down like a gent! I still lost, but learnt my lesson! 

Your scenario is different, but i think the ruling is correct and pretty standard.

If the card is exposed durring the deal then the normal missdeal procedure is followed (you get the first burn card). However if a player exposes his cards before showdown this can be construed as an "angle" since you could do it to gain reads on other players or for collusion with the rest of the table. Since it's probably not an angle most casinos allow you to continue the hand but without any agressive action, rather than declaring the hand dead.

My advice would be to read up on as many of the little quirks of live cash poker before you play at a casino. A good place to start would be the Bricks & Morter forum at 2+2

Maybe im missing something here but why would you wanna put a cent in pot if everyone knows one of ur cards?

I have seen this question asked on a lot of poker related sites and the answer is.....It's a pretty standard ruling that no aggressive action can be made throughout the whole hand

You can do this by the way you count your chips before pushing bet over the line, staring down your opponant and other ways live yet to me the action i have stated only really offers a disadvantage to the guy who made the mistake me.

I didn't argue the point as was told its house rules just found it a stange rule. fwiw i have played in a few casinos before and thought i knew all the rules just this situation has never cropped up before on a table im on. Think i am just frustrated with myself for losing value from a clumsy mistake.

It is a fairly standard ruling, & is used at the majority of Live Venues.
