Late registration

I played in a 30 min. timed tournament yesterday-and noticed that late registration was available for 10 mins. Does it cost the same to register late and do you receive the same no. of chips as early registerers? What are the advantages apart from not being out in the first 10 mins. of late registration??? Janet.
