SPT Manchester Grand Final Live Update

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 160,129

Morning.

Firstly, apologies for the radio silence. One way and another the day was a bit of a 'mare, and the final straw is that my laptop would not hook up to the Casino wifi.

Anyway, you don't want to hear that, so a few jottings follow.

Fingers crossed, we'll find a way to get the update going, if not today, then certainly tomorrow.

There were some furrowed brows as to the £100,000 Guarantee, which needs 200 runners to cover. (And remember, the sats were rake-free).

Well, to everyone's evident surprise, we got 106 runners yesterday (£53,000), so we "just" need 94 today to get over the line.

    Hopes are high.

Of yesterday's 106 entries or re-entries (players could re-enter once if they so desired), exactly 2 dozen survived. And if you don't know what a dozen is, here you go.

Day 1B Play starts at 2pm today, so we finish 2 hours earlier than yesterday, thank goodness. Yesterday was a bit of a stretch, to be honest.

We had a few characters here yesterday.

One of the 3 Aslam brothers were here. There's Zahir, aka Zippy, Zafar, aka Not Zippy, & the third who, I am embarrassed to admit, I've forgotten his name. Might have been Zebbidy.

Pretty sure it was Zafar who was here yesterday. Quite a handsome so & so in his younger days, but carrying some excess timber lately.

Smashing lad, in fact all 3 of them are.

I spent almost the whole day on the same table as Rick Trigg, which was huge fun, if a little awkward, as he's exceptionally talented, & was 3 to my left.

I've not seen Trigg in ages. Think at one time, he was briefly the World No 1 Online MTT player. Very shrewd horse punter too, who always builds a decent book for Chelters.

He lives in Sheffield, & has at least 2 sons, Percy (aged 2) & I've Forgotten The Other One's Name. Freddy maybe? (Sorry Rick).

Rick has a sponsored gig with Grosvenor Poker these days.

He got into a quite extraordinary hand yesterday with chrisdokb, who was to my immediate left.

The 2 of them get to the flop after some pre-flop friskiness. It's 2-6-7 (2 spades) and Chris jams. Trigg thinks forever - at least 10 minutes. He's not a Hollywood-er, he acts & thinks fast, but he looked in real pain.

Eventually, he says "go on then, I have the Ace of Spades" & calls with A-2. So, he's paired the bottom pair & has an ace kicker.

    Chris turns over......Aces.

Trigg does a double-take & realises he's been well & truly bowled all ends up.

Then proceeds to catch running spades to bust Chris.

    Ugh.

Back in the day, Trigg used to turn up for poker events in his incred trench coat. Jeez, I though he was the coolest dude ever.

Keith Hawkins was here too, better known as "Camel".

Keith & Ambo go back to their early days in West London & Surrey, & pokering at Reading cardroom.

Keith has probably only worked about 3 days in his life, if we assume conventional employment. He's lived his whole life as a pro poker player & punter. He's big mates with Tony Bloom, too.

Keith was one of the first Supernova Elite players on 'Stars back in the day, when he played a zillion $1,000 SNG's every year & earned a good living.

He was sharp enough to get out when things got tough, & since then he has concentrated on Sports Betting.

He's a QPR fan (I seem to recall his 'Stars name was LoftusRoad), but lives up in Darlington these days with Kathryn & his son, Jake. I first met Jake at the WSOP in 2004, he was in a pram & wearing nappies. He probably has a moustache now.

Nice to see that two bounties are still available for Sunday.
I would love to add to the one I already have. @SkySam. owned me for couple of hours but I got my man in the end. Great to watch him and @rspca12 on my table. They seem to play poker at a different level, live poker is the nuts. Greg, can’t remember his alias , sorry, said he preferred being at home playing in just his Reg Grundies, the very nice dealer said he could strip down there and then if he wished, he folded to the re-raise.
Good luck to all playing today, especially the SPT regulars, who make these tournaments so much fun.

    Hi Nick,

I thought it was Sky Sam you busted? If you don't know the difference, he's the better looking one but usually wears shocking shoes.

Sorry, my bad. The five hour restless night in an unfamiliar bed is what I am using as my excuse.

I won't bore you with my swashbuckling exploits at the tables yesterday, beyond saying I busted 2 hands before end of play when I got my 40,000 in with A-Q v Ben Dobson, aka f3nix35 who had 10-10. I failed to improve, so that was that. No complaints though, never had so much fun.

I did win a medium sized pot earlier against perhaps the coolest looking dude in poker - a very good player indeed, and a truly lovely man, though there was no skill involved, the hands played themselves.

In fact, this chap was far more famous in his previous day job, from which he is now sadly retired.

    Can you name him?

I'd best go have a shower now, then get myself across to the 235 &, fingers crossed, see if I can get the Lappie fired up.

    Any questions, fire away please.

    Back later.

Running well on and off the tables?!

@Tikay10 could you connect the laptop to a personal hotspot from your mobile? Thanks for these updates.

GL all regs. I see Groggy’s made a good start.

    Anthony Gardner.

Remember when he was at a sky event quite a few years back. Sam1986 (a big spurs fan) was ridiculously excited to see him.
