How did you first get in to poker, & how long ago was that?
And why do you play poker?

Loved the whispering tones of Jesse May and the smokey backdrop of the room.
First time seeing Phil Hellmuth in action and my hero at the time Simon Trumper.
So many cool cats in that series. Wish there was a way to see the old episodes back, so many great memories.
For the 2nd part of the question:-
Play poker for the social aspect and competition with a bit of pocket money at the end of the week. Poker has been a massive part of my life, very few negatives on the whole.
There was a bloke named Tony Kendall on LNP always smiling and having fun
I thought this is a piece of pi$$ you just have to have the best hand
So when I bought my first PC in 2006 the first thing I did was download Poker heaven deposit £50 and stuck it on a nl50 table and started playing, expecting riches to come my way, it lasted an hour
Erm this isn't as easy as I thought, loaded another 50 first hand had aces, this is more like it i said to myself, well, you know the rest
So 100 down first session gutted and thinking this can't go on but I was hooked
Fast forward
After going through about six or seven site's a lad in the pub recommended sky poker he said you can even see yourself on the telly
By this time I realized I was the fish , I read a few books but because of my limited education skills nothing would stick
I even sent sky poker a dirty email ranting saying it was rigged, it was that bad
Then the forum came about and that changed everything, people explaining spots in ways that I could understand and I gradually got slightly better, well when I say better I mean it was taking longer to lose my money I even had a few withdrawals which is always nice
So there you have it my poker journey, I know I will never be a top player I haven't got the brain capacity to take in the information that's out there but so long as I can keep my head above water and it doesn't cost me much I'm happy
It's a great hobby has its ups and downs but when you take one down that feeling is unbelievable

Must correct one thing though, I was not on LNP (Late Night Poker) I was on PNL (Poker Night Live).

I was channel hopping one balmy evening and came across coverage of the WSOP, the game of Texas hold ‘em seemed sooooooo simple, having enjoyed various gambling traits in the past I thought why not have a go.
The dialup system of tinternet was a tad frustrating back in 2009, but it was so satisfying when days later the page eventually loaded and I started playing on a free site, ( no money involved)
As I had built my initial 10k Chips up to over a million I was obviously ready to take on the best with real money 😏
I deposited a hefty 10 British pounds onto a site which sponsored Real Madrid and quickly saw it grow to £11.50.
It was coming round to WSOP time and they were running freerolls which you used your poker points to enter, I was lucky enough to win one of them.
Unbeknownst to me, the winners had qualified into a tournament where the top 4 players won a seat to the Main Event of the WSOP ( a $15k package )
There were 1412 players in the tournament , I started playing at 7pm ish, and at midnight I was still in, I recall only having put my tourney life at stake once when I had a flush draw and luckily hit on the river ( nothing changes 😉)
I was due to get up for work at 6am the next day, so at 1am I was considering going to bed, but there were only 50 or so left.
I managed to make the final table 2nd in chips.
The final hand I recall vividly, I had KK on the button, the chip leader raised, I re raised and both small blind and big blind went all in, the chip leader re-shoved 😳
I snap folded
Both small and big blind had AQ, chip leader had AA
Board ran out perfect ( for me)
I had won the package of 15 thousand dollars
I went up to tell the wife the ‘ good’ news about 2:30am
She wasn’t overjoyed at me waking her up.
People never get tired of me telling this story 😊

Oh my, what memories. Imagine how poker players would deal with that in today's world.
Why?
I play poker for fun, I’m a bit of a worrier and it takes my mind away from most of the things that would haunt me back when I was struggling, I play in the front room on a laptop whilst watching tv and chatting , it’s a terrible way to play I know, but it works for me.
I wouldn't have slept if it was me

Particularly when I sat down at the table and there were thousands of other players in the room, the tables were “ roped off” and loads of people standing watching ( what little they could see) and the constant chant of “ Ivey Ivey Ivey” 🙄
I didn’t cash, although my other claim to fame was making day 2 ( bust out hand AK v QQ AIPF on a AK4 flop , turn 10 river J ) I walked out with Greg Raymer who had previously won.
Basically just been clicking buttons ever since and it's only been these past few months where I have tried to take the game a bit more seriously in order to try and improve. I play for fun at the end of the day, although by some my diary posts you would find that hard to believe. I do enjoy it though, mostly.
