Abuse at the tables.

jordz16jordz16 Member Posts: 2,253
seen some pretty bad abuse in the chatbox from a few really good regs. no idea what it was about but there seemed to be some backstory, was pretty horrid to see that level of language in a public chatbox. i dont play much poker these days due to other commitments but if i was a completely new player and witnessed what i saw tonight i doubt id want to play on here again.

has there been some sort of big scandal? either way for the good of the site id expect regs to want to keep those type of messages between themselves and the other party.

Pretty sure nobody gives a monkeys about a few regs flinging **** at each other on the internet.

In fact, I'm sure most people would find it to be good sport.

I couldnt disagree more strongly. If it was in anyway banter then totally fine, if it was arguing about a certain hand etc again then id have no problem. but horrific abuse from two players directed at one player the second he moves to the table isnt on in my opinion. In fact i cant really think of any occasion online or in real life where it would be acceptable. I have been on this site about 10 years now, never seen anything like that before.

Was it 'arrogant'? He seems to get straight up bullied. No idea why tho.

Folk are too sensitive to this kind of thing.

I cannot abide bullying but a bit of chat between adults on an online poker table doesn't constitute bullying, especially when you can just mute players who are getting on your nerves.

I’m not referring to a bit of chat? I’m referring to two players consistently abusing and berating an opponent completely unprovoked, using the worst words you can use to say to another human.

In any walk of life you can mute/ignore/turn the other cheek if you witness someone being abused but that’s not something I’d personally feel comfortable with. Again I don’t know any history, for all I know the victim may have done something awful but even if that’s the case surely it should be kept in a direct personal dialogue not on a public poker table which can only effect the ecology of the site negatively.

Name and shame. I've called a few players a bunch of names and have been called similar myself

I wasn't suggesting that you turn the other cheek. I was suggesting that the 'victim' (lol) could do so.

I wish we lived in a kinder society but we don't. We elect ****. We act like ****. We are ****. However, we like to pretend that we're not **** ourselves, it's just everyone else that is a ****.

It's been the same for a long time and it's not going to change.

    Who were the players involved?

There was some stuff with arrogant recently.

That’s a rather depressing attitude to have.

As I said I’ve been here 10 years played thousands of MTTs over this period and never seen anything like this before. Maybe it is slightly more prevalent than I’m aware of but I don’t think that is in anyway justification.

As I said before I have no idea whether to guy being abused has warranted such a reaction, but even if he has I believe that should stay between individual parties and not on a public table. You wouldn’t last two minutes in any casino/poker room/boozer saying those sorts of things so personally I don’t think we should be accepting of it online.

You are quite obviously one them. I have hardly played this site the last few months so have no idea what’s gone on, but I don’t think vile abuse towards a player as soon as they join the table is ever ok. In fact that level of abuse just isn’t cool full stop, it’s 2020 man, if you have grievances about someone go down the correct channels. this site doesn’t have too much going for it these days but the community spirit between regs was one thing that was virtually unrivalled, would be a shame if that disappeared.

    hmmm...difficult one this....

As someone who regularly trolls and calls my mate @MISTY4ME Donkey at every table I find him on and try to wind him up when he's playing, I'll try not to present a hypocritical position tho 2 things:

@destinycod Ben- nice guy, doubt he would 'abuse' to the scale/level you are inferring is happening therefore strike him off your mental list !

I agree with you totally- to be called a Cee U Next Tuesday when I play -maybe with cards I shouldn't have played -and win a pot is questionable at best and should be banned at worst.( Though you can imagine my smiles when they are ranting as I count their chips... :# At this point I hold the moral and intellectual higher ground)

I do agree with you- the on table banter with peeps I've got to know is one of the reasons I stay and play here

I also agree you can be offended for a 3rd party- its sounds like it was 2 v 1 , almost a coordinated attempt de-stabilise said ' victim'. However as Ben said, the background and historical context may be a factor..

    Can I suggest you either

    1) Turn the chat off- If i had to resort to that, i'd go to Unibet or GG to play

    2) Take screenshots of the chat and forward them to Customer Services(maybe via a PM to Tikay who sorts people out!)

    3) If 2 doesn't work- I'm sure it would- then the worst case scenario is to name and shame by posting the screenshots; that way the offenders can reflect on what is being posted about them in the public domain and hopefully we will see a cultural and attitudinal shift upwards and reduce the level of abuse

    BTW you can all F**K OFF!! ( That's a joke >:) )

If it was abuse based on how someone plays or something similar I’d certainly understand that’s part of the game and to be taken with a pinch of salt, in fact I have no problem with winding others up etc if it’s poker related. I actually have no issue with the language being used if it was sent privately to the recipient and was for a justifiable reason... my only gripe was that I was shocked to see that level of abuse so public and from regs, I have no personal knowledge of any of the players involved and what the original issue was regarding,
