Who won what, Sunday 30th January - Drewett confirms early promise & takes the Major

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 159,855

Afternoon.

An odd night for traffic, with both Mini & Main missing by small amounts, contrasting with Sheriff which made £2,450 & Turbo £1,710. Cash game traffic seemed very lively though.

The big news in sport was the NFL play-offs. The Rams trailed the 49ers 17-7 but rallied to win 20-17. That was nothing though compared to the the much-fancied Chiefs who looked like they had a Super Bowl berth sewn up when they led the Bengals 21-3, but then the wheels came off & the Bengals staged an astonishing comeback to win 27-24. Three years ago the Bengals were the worst team in NFL, with a 2-14 record. The NFL Draft system is just so good at equalizing teams, & it's a shame that the Premier League don't take note & adopt a similar structure. Then even little teams like Spurs or Everton would stand a chance of the occasional trophy, though of course big successful teams like Arsenal would be worse off.

Super Bowl takes place in two weeks time - February 13th - & will be a "home game" for the Rams at the $5 billion (yes, 5 billion) SoFi stadium, named after the world-famous SoFi Technologies business. They paid $30 million per year for a 20 year period (so $600 milly) for those naming rights, but I've still never heard of them & have no idea what they do.

    Toffeeandy celebrated the arrival of Fat Frank at Everton with 4th for £57, with HUGHMANS being in 6th.

    TheSaw cut through the field to take his best score since winning Hitman Main almost 2 years ago.

    Craig had no joy in the Major this week but was an excellent 2nd in this. I'm pleased to say he has abandoned his micro stakes challenge & so I expect to see more big scores now he does not have to mess about with that. He'll always be a big winner here at Sky Poker, though whether that will be the case at the bigger sites remains to be seen. Let's hope so.

    3rd was riberio, who won Saturday's Reload.

    chrisdboy was a fine 4th, @PKRPar a poor 5th.

    £15,000 Sunday Major (£15,000)

    Regular readers will know I've been highlighting the remarkable record of Drewett. Played a handful of games in 2017 & 2018 without success, then disappeared until the 13th of this month. Since then has played around 100 MTT's & has achieved a string of results;

    Sunday Major - 1st

    BWBH - 4th

    Hitman Main - 3rd

    Turbo - 1st & 2nd

    Sheriff - 2nd & 6th

    £6k BH - 5th

    7 @ 7 - 1st

    Mega, 3rd & 6th

    Quickdraw - 5th

    From just 100 games, that's a quite remarkable record.

    Sharing the podium were newdaddy & whitters95, no surprise in either case.

    It was a pleasant surprise to see Mr Channing in 4th, especially as he must have been seriously distracted by the remarkable NFL play-off games both of which yielded terrific turnarounds.

    Dog Bloke was 12th, & it was another "close but no cigar" night for UnEuropean in 20th.

    @Drewett 1450000 1 £4200

    @newdaddy 0 2 £2430

    @whitters95 0 3 £1395

    @NChanning 0 4 £1095

    @kgee 0 5 £945

    £2,000 Mini Major (£2,000)

    Well would you believe it? After I gave @Shrimpy28 the full bottle job treatment yesterday he goes & wins the Mini Major. So now I need to say something nice about him. Bear with me, this may take a while. And for some extra spice, @waller02 could only manage 30th. Even micro-stakes grinder @Duesenberg (13th) did better than that. Shrimpy's cup runneth over. To be fair, he & his family are all just recovering from COVID, so this will be a nice little tonic. Hostilities will resume tomorrow.

    £1,000 Mega Stack B/Hunter (£1,400)

    Jaystac continues to show improved form, & won Mega for the 2nd time in 8 nights, also won MidEx a week or so ago. 3 wins in 8 nights from modest volume is pretty neat.

    Thursday's Hitman Muni winner spearsy136 was 2nd.

    £1,500 Sheriff Bounty Hunter (£2,450)

    The Natnug run just keeps giving, he took the Sheriff last night for the 2nd time in 3 days, & in addition has won a Man & 7 @ 7 in the last 7 days. Ridiculous.

    Super_Oli & chris2305 were 2nd & 3rd.

    A collection of good guys were 4th, 5th & 6th, with Solack - 58 & eleven twelfths old he claims - leading the way from fellow old-timers TommyD & StayOrGo.

    £1,500 Reload Rebuy B/Hunter (£1,728)

    baddunn has plenty of Featured MTT FT's to his credit, but as far as I can see, this Reload was his maiden victory.

    £1,000 Turbo Bounty Hunter (£1,710)

    thoughtfox won Turbo for the 2nd time this year & 3rd time since October.

    Swog & UnEuropean (2nd & 3rd) both continued their streaks of FT's without a win. Come on boys, do buck up, even @Shrimpy28 won something last night.

    @thoughtfox 285000 1 £316.35 + £232.88 Head Prizes 8

    £1,000 Quickdraw (£1,420)

    cabbaz took Quickdraw for the 2nd time in a fortnight, during which time he also won a Turbo & a Mini Major.

    Mega winner Jaystac so nearly made it a double on the night, winning Mega & 2nd here.

    @cabbaz 178000 1 £262.70 + £175.82 Head Prizes 4

    @Jaystac 0 2 £177.50 + £99.04 Head Prizes 3

    £1,000 Midnight Express B/Hunter (£1,360)

    xyxyxy seems to defy logic, on Wednesday was runner-up in Quickdraw despite not taking a single bounty, & here he managed to win MidEx despite only taking 3 bounties.

    In 3rd was aynaricol who prints at lower stakes, but on her rare forays into bigger stuff she does just as well. Earlier this month she ran 2nd in both Turbo & £6k BH, and don't forget she won Xmas UKOPS 16 for £1,100 at the end of December.

    £10,000 Stack Builder Freeroll (182 entries)

    johnmonty has a whopping 258,685 games on his CV, of which 99.57% (exactly, not a guess) were DYM's. Seems pretty handy at MTT's though & that 0.43% of games which were MTT's have yielded over £7,000 of profit. Very nice.

    Swog was out with the washing with 3 tables left but rallied to take 6th & £500.

    This day last year...

    This was the day @hughjarse9 popped in & scooped £20,000 by winning the £100,000 SPT Online.

    And by chance @Shrimpy28 played the Mini & got an Honourable Mention for finishing 40th. What a difference a year makes, he's a proper Big Boy now.

    Ah the "anniversary" of my first real poker tournament! A good year for me, plenty of friends made and a lot of poker knowledge consumed. Roll on the next SPT!

    I could not be more pleased for you Craig. I know you had your reasons, & it's not for me to suggest what you should or should not do, but that microstakes challenge made no sense to me, none at all. Now you are clear of that I expect you to motor on big time.

    I only did it due to gambling regulation issues with deposit limits and fear of being excluded from more poker sites. things begun well but when the bad days started coming my fear of exclusion was growing.
    I read that mental poker book and as it said I had to find the mental issue, I realized I was letting fear of self exclusion block my way but I have put an end to that and as a result I'm loving it.
