Who won what, Tuesday 1st February. roddy takes the Main, DrRunGood the Summit, & ? wins in Vegas

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 161,320

Morning.

MTT traffic was a bit meh again. Everything covered OK, including Main & Summit, but would have been neat to see a little more sparkle to the numbers.

In Sport, the new Asian Tour is making waves. Essentially, it is a venture backed with Saudi money & the man calling the shots seems to be Greg Norman. At yesterday's presser, it was all mealy-mouthed political speak & no substance, & journos had to submit questions in advance, so as to filter out any criticism. The suggested end game is a Golf "Super League", open only to the elite. I'll pass on that thanks. Top golfers are being offered eye-watering sums to commit to the Tour - Ian Poulter was reportedly offered £22 million. Ian is 46 years old...

I admired Greg Norman as a golfer very much. As a Golf politician, not so much, his mealy-mouthed spiel yesterday was unbearably sickly. I hope the whole thing falls flat on it's face.

    7 at 7 Bounty Hunter (£1,008)

For the second time in a little over 2 months phillips58 took the 7 @ 7. He has a Hitman Mini win on his CV too. Perhaps not a name many of us are familiar with, but has over 78,000 games to his credit here, although 70% of them are DYM's. Even so, that still leaves a whole lot of MTT's he's played.

    £6,000 Gold Rush (£6,120)

Not much of a surprise here as roddy28 takes the Main. He was rampant late last year, winning everything in sight. He's been AWOL much of 2022, probably tearing up the Live Cash Game tables all over the shop, but he won Quickdraw last week in splendid style, winning more in Head Prizes than regular prize money. Pretty sure SPT Glasgow (announced yesterday) will be graced by his presence.

Fabulous result for runner-up Boneyard who got in via the satellite route, winning both a £1.60 Quarter & then the £7.20 Semi, & eventually walked away with over £700, not a bad return on £1.60. Only previous (known) winning form was a Reload last summer.

FeNdeR36 played his way into 5th, & it was his 2nd Main Event FT this year as he was 4th in Avenger Main a couple of weeks ago.

There was another near-miss for UnEuropean in 7th. I fancy he needs to learn to flip better.

    £2,000 Mini Gold Rush (£2,165)

Mini Gold Rush went to oats, only previous form was 2nd in a Mini in March last year.

As I don't have much to say about last night's Mini, here's a topical picture quiz - can anyone identify the object in the photo? N o googling, & no rude answers please.

    £1,000 Mega Stack B/Hunter (£1,260)

Vey little data available on Mega winner letsgothen, primarily I suppose as they are mainly a DYM-er.

Plenty of familiar faces on the FT though, including splashies, Alexa & chrisdonkb.

And look who was 6th - Natnug. Only 6th? Was also just 5th in Summit & 3rd in Quickdraw. So no wins & just a 6th, 5th & 3rd. Always suspected he was a flash-in-the-pan.

    £6,000 Summit Bounty Hunter (£6,900)

Some may have been a little surprised to see DrRunGood take Summit, especially as it was only his 4th MTT this year, but a little delving tells us it's his 2nd Summit victory, as he also won it last March. If we then delve a little deeper, we see that all the way back in late 2013/early 2014, he had a bit of a heater, winning a televised PRIMO for £4,000, 4th in a UKOPS Main for £2,800 & 5th in a televised Super Roller for £2,100, & all that was in the space of two months. Bit of a star on the quiet then.

4th was fishhhh, with pizzled in 6th.

Natnug could only finish 5th. Pfft.

Just missing the FT was the smooth-talking silver-tongued janechrist.

    £1,000 Midnight Express B/Hunter (£1,460)

Palace Bloke took MidEx for the 2nd time in a week to top up his already bulging piggy bank. Drinks are on him at SPT Brighton. Interestingly, he won it the same day exactly a year ago, so he gets to keep the trophy.

    Caesars Palace, Las Vegas

News reaches me from my foreign correspondent that a very well known Sky Poker player, often featured in these threads, won a Comp in Vegas a few days ago.

Anyone care to guess who it was?

    This day last year...

Summit went to GuyL2, which resulted in a dreadfully puntastic headline.

And MidEx went to Palace, exactly as it did this year.

@Tikay10 Sadly, not only am I not good enough to flip well, this time it was AT < T8 all-in pre for the CL.

To be fair though, the player was so desperate to get their chips in that they must've known the 8 was coming. I must study more!

In Sport, the new Asian Tour is making waves. Essentially, it is a venture backed with Saudi money & the man calling the shots seems to be Greg Norman….. …..The suggested end game is a Golf "Super League", open only to the elite. I'll pass on that thanks. Top golfers are being offered eye-watering sums to commit to the Tour - Ian Poulter was reportedly offered £22 million. Ian is 46 years old...

I don’t think there will be a rush from the elite to join this. Both the PGA and the newly named DP World Tour have made it clear that anyone joining will immediately receive lifetime bans. That would also preclude participation in or captaining of the Ryder Cup. I’m not sure what the response has been from the Majors but you have to assume the USPGA will be shut to Super League participants.

Will Poulter give up a chance to captain the Ryder Cup?

The only current top name who has admitted discussions (and having signed a NDA) is DJ. quite surprised about him, to be honest.

Yes, we have not exactly had an avalanche of replies, have we?

Our Las Vegas winner was @IrishRose pictured here at an SPT.

I hope you are right. I fear you are not.

Poulter is 46 years old. His earning power is going to wane. If he is like pretty much every other 46-yr-old golfer in history. He has been (reputedly) offered £22 million. Lee Westwood has also said he has signed an NDA.

Lots of golfers in their 40s/50s will take the money. And quite a few younger ones, too.

The Ryder Cup? Tricky. Want the best golfers there? Or not?

There was a time when we tried to insist that European golfers played in Europe, not America. It didn't work. Why should this be any different?
