Who won what, Tuesday 13th July. Some new features added today, including Soapbox Corner

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 160,129

Afternoon.

There were some great suggestions as to how to improve the Results Thread.

Time has beaten me today, I've had some other stuff to sort, so it's only a semi-lite version, but I have incorporated a couple of the ideas that were suggested.

More may be added in the coming days. Some will stay, others maybe not, but we'll see if we can rev it up a bit.

Feedback - for or against - continues to be welcome.

    Soapbox Corner.

We wont do this daily, but as several suggested it, we'll give it a bash every now & then. Hopefully it will produce comment &/or debate. No point doing it if it does not.

    The Customer is always right

Let's start with this 'photo, which I'm sure you've all seen.

    image

Yes, it's the Education Minister, no less, flicking the finger. Which was, of course, bang wrong, & out of order.

There is mitigation though. A huge & hostile crowd surrounded her, and were mocking her & Bungling Boris, & whilst she was definitely wrong to retaliate, one can surely understand why.

Which brings us to Sky Poker, & the (often deserved) criticism which Sky Poker regularly get on this Forum, some of it extremely rude, much of it impugning the integrity of the site & the RNG & by extension, the Staff who run it.

If I or anyone else from Sky Poker were to respond with the written version of flicking a finger, we'd be sacked tuit de suite, you may be assured. Is that fair? Is that old cliche "the customer is always right" still relevant? Well no, it's not. But Sky Poker dare not respond in kind, there'd be murders, & the Usual Suspects would be all over it, & the author would be snap-cancelled.

    Is that reasonable? Absolutely not.

Is it likely to change? Absolutely not.

So when folks come on here with their ridiculous tales of "we can't win because players make bad calls", or all the nonsense conspiracy & RNG stuff, we just have to bite our tongues & stay schtum.

It's a bit like hitting someone who can't defend themselves, & yet folks do it time after time without ever considering if it's fair.

The same players seem to repeat the same nonsense time after time.

One wonders what might happen if we were to say, if you don't like it...... I think you know the answer to that.

The pendulum has swung too far in this "the customer is always right". IMO, obv.

I didn’t really follow this too closely but there was some debate about which finger is raised etc, never really clear from a still. Anyway, my question is related to the splash on the wall behind her, did someone throw an egg? Reminds me of good old ‘two Jags’ Prescott responding in kind all those years ago.

Customers will always have the upper hand because they know employees can't respond in the same way. And they use it to their advantage.
Fortunately the RNG brigade (and your employers) can't hear what you are calling them from behind your laptop screen.😂

The ‘Customer is always right’ mantra was never correct, we live in the age of social media which imo has made things worse.

The “sellers” of products are under constant scrutiny, and those who are employed in the industry have a thankless task, made worse by the shysters who proudly go by the title “influencers “ ( puke)

As far as sky poker is concerned ( and others in the industry) it would be fantastic if they could have someone employed in the “ right to reply” category, a person who could reply in the same way as the person making the complaint , similar to the one who changes their profile to match Tesco, Asda, McDonald’s etc etc, they give some excellent ( and hilarious) replies to quite outrageous demands from the ‘customer’.

Luckily here we have a few people who call out the ones making slurs on the site thank goodness.

I don't think there is any debate, it is clearly the middle finger on the video. The "baying mob" was a bit of good natured singing of "bye, bye, Boris". Think it was the Bay City Rollers who did the original.

Think we all have days like this, so don't really feel much hatred. She left school at 16 and has done all right for herself. She has some pretty appaling views and shouldn't really be anywhere near education.

Anyway moving on, I think most of the complaints are pretty ridiculous, and wouldn't bother with replying to most. They get enough scorn anyway. The software is a bit creaky and annoying at times, but swings and roundabouts, and there are far bigger annoyances at other sites.
