'Ill-conceived': Trump hit with triple whammy as 3 judges rule against him in 2 hours
President Donald Trump's legal position this week has gone from bad to worse, as three judges consecutively issued rulings against him on major executive actions, over roughly 90 minutes, CNN reported Tuesday.
First, U.S. District Judge Amir Ali in Washington, D.C. smacked down the Trump administration's attempt to ignore his order to unfreeze foreign aid through the U.S. Agency for International Development. Ali previously ordered that aid be released weeks before, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio and acting USAID director Peter Marocco had argued they already reviewed all the frozen grants and their suspension was legitimate. Ali's new ruling rejected their argument, again demanding the payments move forward.
Then, U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan, another D.C. jurist, issued a preliminary injunction against the Trump administration's pause on federal funding and grants.
“In the simplest terms, the freeze was ill-conceived from the beginning. Defendants either wanted to pause up to $3 trillion in federal spending practically overnight, or they expected each federal agency to review every single one of its grants, loans, and funds for compliance in less than twenty-four hours. The breadth of that command is almost unfathomable,” she wrote, suspending the freeze indefinitely.
After that, yet another U.S. District Judge in Washington State, Jamal Whitehead, blocked Trump's moves to freeze refugee resettlement in the United States, proclaiming in his order that his “actions amount to an effective nullification of congressional will in establishing the nation’s refugee admissions program. While the president has substantial discretion to suspend refugee admissions, that authority is not limitless.”
I mentioned this on another thread. Because people need to appreciate just what "America First" means for the Rest of the World.
Since at least the 1950s, the position of the US has been pretty consistent. It has positioned itself as the leader of the "Free World". Has a paternalistic view of the World-"Uncle Sam", if you like.
"America First" changes all that. It does what it says on the tin. The USA now wishes (rightly or wrongly) to concentrate first and foremost on its own interests. Not those of anywhere else.
Which means the Free world can no longer look to America for support or leadership. Which, logically, means that Europe must take on that role. Not as in the existing trade-based European Union. Foreign policy of like-minded nations prepared to support one another
It was good to see that Macron at least had the ba lls to correct him yesterday, when he started on his bs. I hope that Starmer has the ba lls to do likewise.
Yes, was very pleasing to see Macron stop Trump mid-sentence - he actually put his hand on hid arm - & correct him.
Trump's face was a picture.
There's an oddity with the Conspiracy Theory adiots - well there's LOT of oddities with them - but in particular they all detest Macron. No real reason, I suspect few of them know why, they just copy the "Ultras" who basically tell them what to say, & to go away & disseminate.
It was SO good to see Macron stand up to the Racist thug yesterday.
Donald Trump Denies Calling Volodymyr Zelenskyy A 'Dictator' Days After Calling Him A 'Dictator'
Donald Trump has denied calling Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator” - barely a week after calling him a “dictator”.
The US president stunned reporters with the bare-faced lie as he sat alongside Keir Starmer in the White House.
Trump attacked Zelenskyy in a tirade on his Truth Social account last week.
He said: “He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden “like a fiddle.” A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left.”
But asked by a reporter in the Oval Office if he still thinks Zelenskyy is a dictator, Trump replied: “Did I say that? I can’t believe I said that. Next question.”
