'Free-loading' Europe and emojis: The leaked White House Signal messages in full
The US Defense Secretary blasted European “free-loading” after US Vice President JD Vance moaned about “bailing out Europe again” in a leaked group chat discussing plans for military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Top Trump administration officials mistakenly disclosed war plans in a messaging group that included a journalist shortly before the US attacked Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis, the White House said on Monday, following a first-hand account by The Atlantic.
The leak has been described by Democrats as “one of the most stunning breaches of military intelligence” after details and screenshots of the group chat were published on The Atlantic’s website this week.
The Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg reported on Monday that he was unexpectedly invited on March 13 to an encrypted chat group on the Signal messaging app called the “Houthi PC small group.”
Two days later US President Donald Trump launched an ongoing campaign of large-scale military strikes against Yemen’s Houthis on March 15.
Here are the key takeaways from the group chat:
European free-loading labelled 'pathetic' by US Defense Secretary Hours before the attacks started on March 15, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted operational details about the plan in the messaging group, “including information about targets, weapons the US would be deploying, and attack sequencing,” Mr Goldberg said.
His report omitted the details but Mr Goldberg described it as a “shockingly reckless” use of a Signal chat.
Mr Hegseth has denied sharing war plans but Mr Goldberg’s report insisted that he sent “precise information about weapons packages, targets and timing.”
Vice President JD Vance disagrees with President Trump At another stage in the group chat JD Vance appeared to disagree with Donald Trump, Mr Goldberg reported.
During one exchange JD Vance’s account wrote: “Team, I am out for the day doing an economic event in Michigan. But I think we are making a mistake.
It said: “VP: I understand your concerns – and fully support you raising w/ POTUS. Important considerations, most of which are tough to know how they play out (economy, Ukraine peace, Gaza, etc).
“I think messaging is going to be tough no matter what – nobody knows who the Houthis are – which is why we would need to stay focused on: 1) Biden failed & 2) Iran funded.”
Shortly after explosions first went off in Yemen messages began to appear in the Signal channel.
Mr Goldberg reported that Michael Waltz had described the message as an “amazing job”. A few minutes later CIA Director John Ratcliffe responded “A good start”.
Not long after, Waltz responded with three emojis: a fist, an American flag, and fire.
Others soon joined in, including “MAR,” believed to be Secretary of State Marco Antonio Rubio, who wrote, “Good Job Pete and your team!!,” and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, who texted, “Kudos to all – most particularly those in theatre and CENTCOM! Really great. God bless.”
US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff then responded with five emoji: two hands-praying, a flexed bicep, and two American flags.
The Houthi-run Yemeni health ministry reported that at least 53 people were killed in the strikes, a number that has not been independently verified, The Atlantic reported.
Every time you think they couldn't get any worse, they do. Every time you think that we have the worst politicians possible you only have to look at the States to realise that it could be even worse.
I hardly think America is saving our arses again, they have a foothold and interest in these areas as part of their footprint in the middle East, it will be Oil and Dollar related for starters.
The USA seem quite useless at the moment. Trump blew up the ceasefire in Gaza. He interfered in an agreement which seemed to have been working. The hostages were being released according to plan, as were the Palestinian prisoners. When he demanded that all the remaining hostages were released, not according the agreement, but immediately, or else. Israel have implemented the or else, killing many innocent civilians.
He looks like he intends to sell Ukraine down the river, purely for Americas financial gain.
He has caused havoc to world trade, purely in the name of financial gain for the US. He has blown up many existing trade agreements, and can only be seen as an unreliable partner. He has implemented tariffs, and backtracked within a matter of hours. Although it remains to be seen how that is going to work.

I'm just going to accept they've gone over to the dark side, everything makes more sense that way.
They are on one against the jounalist now, their way of damage limitation, besperch someones character.
