Bravo Sir Keir, at last, a semblance of sanity prevails.
The media narrative is a disgrace, but hopefully the Great British Public will see through that.
Not being at loggerheads with our closest neighbours is surely a good thing.
For the UK? Definitely. For politicians who want power? Not so much.
Politics has always been somewhat dishonest. But politicians are far less honest now than before. And the same is true for our Press. and our electorate.
Reactions to this deal have been both hysterical and downright false. Let me give 2 examples.
1. Kemi Badenoch has claimed that "no PM" should ever do a deal like this in relation to fishing rights. Conveniently forgetting that this is just a continuation of the self-same deal agreed by the last, Conservative, Govt. I didn't see the Press give all this faux outrage then.
2. Fishermen live in a different World to me. I watched in some amusement as 1 fisherman proclaimed that the worst thing about this 12 year deal is that it will lead to "uncertainty". Really? It might prove to be good. It might be bad. But what it will not do is cause uncertainty. The 12 year bit is a clue
As a nation, we appear to be increasingly willing to vote for people who stand for absolutely nothing. Just against anything that might make them popular. That will promise to reduce your taxes, and increase spending to benefit you. Without saying who will pay more. And who will receive less. That have precisely zero experience of running anything. But are happy to promise that they can do it better than people who do have that experience.
