This always amazes me as surely France could dramatically reduce the number of boats by just announcing that EVERY small boat passenger will be immediately taken back to France. Within a very short space of time people will then stop going to France as a way of getting to England. Of course this also helps England, so that's probably the reason France won't contemplate it.
It will also stop people drowning, which is the main aim of stopping the boats, surely?

They cant. Apparently the rules are they are unable to intervene once the boat is in the water.
They have a masiive coastline to police.
Another obvious fact is that every asylum seeker that ends up in France, travels through a number of safe countries in Europe, before arriving in France. Many of them only do this with the intention of arriving in the UK. Therefore the result is that France end up with many camps of asylum seekers awaiting passage to the UK. So logically, if every one of them was returned to France, sent to Rwanda, or elsewhere, then far fewer of them would make the trek to France, and pay a people smuggler thousands for passage to the UK. So the situation in France would definitely improve, if this was the case.
Ah go to London quite often and ah always stay in Ealing Broadway or Borehamwood, ah was there a couple of weeks ago and stayed in Ealing for a week and ah travelled on the Elizabeth line to Tottenham Court Road every day.
From ma hotel to gettin off the train hardly a person spoke English, people walking by, people on the phone with the speaker on having conversations on the tube, now ah know it's full of tourists and some people say ah don't speak English but Ealing isn't really tourist central, London has changed so much since ah stayed there in the eighties.
Ah would go for a few shandies at night and ah would get talking to a few locals and they were saying the council estates are no - go areas and they are over run by immigrants and that something needs to change, obviously you can take what they were saying with a pinch of salt and ah know London is a city built on immigrants, but it has changed so much, is it for the better or worse, and ah know what the locals ah was talking to thought.
Labour awards contract for asylum barges and hotels despite pledge to end their use
The government has awarded a contract which allows for hotels and barges to house asylum seekers up until September 2027, despite Labour vowing to end the practice.
The wide ranging agreement - which covers transport, accommodation and venue bookings for the public sector - includes services for asylum seekers, released prisoners and rough sleepers.
The transparency document, seen by The Independent, says it includes the provision of commercial accommodation including hotels, serviced apartments, holiday parks, staff blocks, halls of residence, barges and cruise vessels.
Rogue immigration lawyers who help illegal migrants lodge fraudulent asylum claims will face fines of up to £15,000 in a Home Office initiative.
Regulators will be given new powers to fine fraudulent firms and advisers who pose as immigration advisers to help illegal migrants mount claims to stay in the country.
The changes, to be introduced as amendments to the Government’s Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, will also close a loophole that allows someone currently banned from giving immigration advice to continue to do so by claiming they are doing it under “supervision”.
The new fines come on top of existing powers that allow regulators to jail anyone giving immigration advice without proper registration with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) for up to two years.
