checking a pot down when a player is all in?

Was playing a tourney and blinds were 200/400, i had 20,000, player B 18,000, player C all in 3500, there were 20 odd left and top 5 got paid. My problem is, me and player B called the all in guy, i hit middle pair, i bet 2000, player B folds, all in guy goes on to win the hand. Player B now says im daft, he woulda won on the river and we shoulda checked it down. My thinking in this situation, is that its not the bubble or a sattelite, so i played the hand normally, ok i lost but i would have anyway as it happens, but i would like to know if and when other players think its ok to check check through the streets against an all in player, and when its not.

    Why? The aim of an MTT is to win all the chips not all limp into the cash together.

    Poker is meant to be a competive game, if you think the best way to win is bet then bet.  Doesn't matter what anyone says thats the game.

    If you're 50 off the money does it matter though if one goes or they don't?

    Close to bubble, FT's etc and when you dont have big hands fine insta check.

    i`v had it were all in and myself and other player checked till the river,he was last 2 acted with me first, i checked, he made mistake tryin 2 steal on a bounty by going all in and i had full house so had 2 call, thats 2 heads 4 me, i would always checked down and if all in won they won. why waste losiin more chips,  even though it`s unwriten law i would say it`s commen curticy. sorry 4 spelling mistakes??

    If I have flopped 2 pair or trips and their is a flush or striaght draw I am always going to bet but Im not keen on bluffing or semi bluffing when I know I have to turn my cards over!

    Good etiquette says the pot should always be checked down, but if you've got a strong hand you should definitely bet it to protect it. I'd probably be checking middle pair when there's a "dry" side-pot, but if you thinm you've got the best hand out of the three of you then there's nothing wrong with betting to protect it.

Are you saying in the middle stages of a tourney, if you had AA and called an all in for 3/4 of your stack, and got another caller who had similar chip stack to you, flop came A,3,4 two diamonds, you would check it down and give the 2nd oponent the chance to do you in with a gutshot flush/straight draw?

    The only time that you "must" check down a pot when a player is all-in is when you are on the bubble of a satellite.
    This is because it is good strategy - not etiquette. The object is to qualify and there is no advantage to increasing your stack - you just want to knock out the small stack.

    In any other situation it is purely subjective - even on the bubble of a standard tournament. If you feel that it is advantageous to you to bet then you should do so.

    this is debated in every casino iv played in!! its happened to me a few times, but i think there is no right way!!

    it depends on the situation.. if there were 6 players left and your bankroll needed the cash then i check it down and hope the guys all in busts out...

    i personally dont care about the guy who would have won only my stack!!!

    if you checked it down you would have lost the hand but 1 less player in tourney!! 

    i bet and take the pot!!

    sporny your "unwritten law"  isnt because it is courteous its so the two players left in "softplay" each other (without directly saying it) in order to increase the chance of knocking the other guy out, that is the only reason why you would check it down
