played this hand over in my head and looking back I could have layed it down after the big raise on the flop
i put neil on JJ so when the flop came I should have folded listening to my read but thought he couldent have trips and talked myself out of it, oh and before anyone shouts bad beat get over it I was way behind so no bad beat! just a lesson on reading the betting

Pre flop betting is pretty terrible from all players.

As for villain min raise min 4 bet. Hes got a big pair. However, I dont think many players are folding in heat of moment but if you take 2 minutes to look at it after its a clear fold.

Cheers AJS my thoughts exactly just a rush of blood to the head but can you explain the  pre flop betting is bad first player bets two times blind I re-raise to 4 times blind he re-raises back 10 times blind this is where alarm bells start ringing and I flat call, flop comes J high with straight and flush draws,  are the opening bets to small? I often am unsure what to bet at the start of a game when the blinds are so low as you tend to get called with anything so any flop can be dangerous

He raises to 40, with QQ I'd be raising it up to 150-200 there. Then if he goes all in or raises massive it's a decision has he got AK or bigger pair, maybe JJ but unlikely. It is a 6-handed table so QQ figures to be best preflop so can't see why you just called his weird raise to 140. On the flop if you don't put him on bigger pair just fairly standard.

cheers dud the reason I just called was he reraised my raise so i put him on a big pair or AK  with two other players already in the pot my  QQ is very vulnarable so wanted to see the flop if no A or K then i would push
which i did but will certainly bet much bigger pre flop next time thank you

No need to go all in after the flop has come down. Make a decent bet and see what the rest do if someone calls or raises you know you are in trouble. Its early in the proceedings so you have time to recover. Look after your stack as best you can and try and use some pot control early on. These things cost money you know. Wait for a better spot with less agro. My opinion is that alot of people would have called with j 9 as well so it is best to ask a serious question but not your whole stack.

Pre flop- you want to raise an amount that 1) asks a question to find out if your beat or not.
    2) Get value from worse hands and to charge other players to outdraw you.

You want to make it 160 or so because with big pairs you have massive reverse implied odds (google it).

If he then 4 bets your decent raise you know your in bad shape and can fold unless hes some lagtard.

thank you all this is extreamly good advice i always had trouble playing big hands early on, and AJS did not think about reverse implied odds  one to remember

re-raise bigger preflop and fold to a shove unless he's a mental.

I can only echo what these other guys have said in the posts before me early on in a tournament if i pick up QQ KK or AA im raising between 6-10 BB because otherwise you just get people calling with all sorts of hands ie- 78 suited 10j suited raggy aces etc etc. if you get re-raised then you got to ask yourself what would he do that with it would stink of AA to me i don't think he would re raise a 10 BB raise with AK so therefore i put the opponent on either AA or KK but if this happens your just unlucky hope you run good in the future lol gl matey
