Minraise with 55 in the BB after 4 limpers. What are you trying to achieve with this?

Open raise with AK for 20p, yet only a 12p raise after 2 limpers with the KQs OOP.

    Min raising small pps

    Reasoning

Firstly I do sometimes make it 12 or 16p, and secondly there are a couple of other hands I will min with - so its not super exploitable.

I will generally do this when there are several players who are just not folding to bigger raises. I will flop the set a small % of the time, the range of calling hands at 4nl is so crazy wide that I am not able to assign ranges with much accuracy. I am happy just to make it a small raise and not waste much money for when I miss. The times I do hit, there are more players left in the pot to have also caught a bit of the flop - more players for me to have chance of stacking. Yes there are more people left to stack me, but I just acknowledge that take that risk.

The idea of min raising small pps being a leak was pointed out to me a while back, I took it on board and did a few weeks trial raising more. I did a **** of a lot worse than I did with my min raising. Before anybody chips up "this will be exploitable higher up" - Well, im not playing higher up am I!

I will 4xbb raise if a decent reg is the only player left in the hand pre and I can have more chance of them folding pre, or to a contin bet post.

Simple fact of the matter, at 4nl I do a lot better raising small pps small pre. Maybe because I am not good enough to assign ranges post and bet accordingly, or maybe I am playing 5 tables and cannot follow the dynamic of each table closely enough........ I just tend to make a habit of doing things that win me more ££ in the long run.

What do you mean OOP KQs, I am oop with AK as well, no real reasoning for bet sizing with the KQs 12p and 20p AK.

Not as such with regards to the last sentence. Whilst being UTG means you could well be OOP, you don't know this as you enter the hand. But being in the SB and raising, you know you'll definitely be OOP should you get a caller.

Fair enough for the reasoning, but you wouldn't click it back with QQ+, so I'd say your range is somewhat unbalanced should the table be paying attention. Which they won't be of course as it's 4l, but we should assume someone is alert to our moves.

don't worry about being exploitable at 4nl, yeah sure you don't wanna get in to bad habits if you plan to move up, but you should be playing the best possible way to beat the games that you're in at the moment

don't min raise 55 after 4 limpers, it's pointless, and in general, I think you need to look at alot of your bet sizing. the 3bet with AK pre is way too small and then i'd day the raise pre with KQs is too small as well. also, why are you betting so small on the turn/river in the 55 hand with what is effectively the nut? you're playing in a game where people will call you down way too light and you don't seem like you wish to take advantage of this?

I would have thought the small bet on the turn was pretty obv.

I am betting small on the turn because I know (and mean know with 99% certainty) that at least one has a draw. This small bet allows them to chase cheaply (to a worse hand) or allows either one to bluff/semi bluff shove over the top. Perhaps I could have gone a little bigger, but if I was playing the hand again I would do pretty much the same.

The small bet on the river, this is where I was wrong at thought they were chasing to the flush. the small bet allows a missed flush to shove over bluffing, lets the 8 raise me, or lets a small pair call that would otherwise have folded to a 3/4 pot bet.

I covered the "pointless" min raise when replying to hhfhsfusifdhsfusdfdosbnfosdfs.

    Roll now about £84

    Peace

A straight up question, no levels
You're quite comfortable with your game and make a profit at these stakes.
    Why not move up?

    Hey Calc!

Not seen your diary in a while, if you started from £30 nice going with the increase.

With your 5s hand, at the end of the day do what is right for you.

I would say generally i'd repop it pretty big to try and get it to heads up or just call (check) to set mine. Most times we are not going to hit our five, so with a good raise and a thinned field, we have a better chance of taking it down post flop when we don't hit the set. Playing it 5/6 way without our set/ straight draw, we are folding the majority of the time.

    ------------------------------------

Paul, I would say a lot of players play at this level because they win and play for fun. There's loads of decent/ winning players that play 4nl. CCF, Craig, Tintin, dabossman to name but a few

specially at nl4 m/r any hand is pretty pointless

with ya small prs your just inflating the pot for someone else
flops will go multiway = you don't hit sets enough of the time

m/r any value hand = multi way flops = less % chance of you winning

inlfating pots for the times that you hit is a pretty bad idea, cause you inflating them for the large % you don't hit

if you have the chance to see multi way flops for cheap at nl4 with implied hands then do so

essentially if no one folds pre then no need to inflate pot with weak holdings at nl4
if flop goes multi way the size of the pot is increaed anyway, so multi way flops bloat the pot anyway so if we do hit the flop hard the pot size is good

Well a couple of reasons really.

At this stage I would not be rolled to move up, might look at this in a few months though.

I did move up to 8nl (When I hit the 4 digit br I thought I should stop nitting it up) Had an amazing +ve first week (too good in fact) made about £250 in the week, then the second week was like a doom switch being flicked. Down about £175.

Found it a lot more stressfull in the numbers (obv only on the way down)

Didnt go any further than that as I withdrew most of my roll to fund a holiday - felt a lot nicer having other people pay for it rather than drawing it from my bank account savings.

And to be fair, im not that good at poker, the grand I made was just from implementing an understanding of basic maths.

Will see if I can grind a few hundred then re evaluate things.

Well, got it up to £1k playing 4nl, was not really fussed about moving up. Personally no real need to make bigger money at 8nl/10/nl20nl etc.

It was (and still is) more like a pass time, some people play Fifa or cod, some people read books or DJ etc I just played/play 4nl - almost like a habit to the point it wasnt about the money, just outhinking other people (granted its not hard at 4nl)

Just realised at £1k I would have a pop at 8nl to see if I could beat it.
