Love this Diary, one of the most honest ones on here, & you start by looking at your own mistakes & limitations, rather than finger-pointing. I hope your wife has a better year in 2014, I recall she was most unwell last year.

    Thanks Tikay,

Mrs P is home (touch wood) having spent 3/4 the last months in hospital in 3 stints. Still having treatment but doing well all things considered.

Managed to fet a few 6max in this week - don't think I'll be seeing my name on the PS4 leaderboard though.

Started off well then hit a poor run - got a bit carried away getting too aggro too soon - ok taking a flip 3 handed in a 6 max but not 5 handed! Been playing dyms and my timing was a bit off - there really is a lot more play in the 6max structure. Tightened up again early doors and duly made 2 2nds and a 1st in last 3 games to maintain a consistent overall cash and ROI of 50+ and 40+.

Edit:Comments refer to last 11 games. I intended to post an update every 10 games but found a discrepancy in my results tracker which meant I had played 11 not 10. Next update will be at 70 games.

Also includes a couple of results where I got called away from table and lost - one 3 handed knew I would be gone for a while shoved with K9 and ran into AT which held. Then had the same when HU - tried to induce an all-in call and ended up being blinded out.

Still, cant complain I have certainly benefitted more than a couple of times from absent players myself during this challenge.

    Hi phantom

Just read this through. Found it really interesting.
    Few things

Most importantly, glad your wife's home.
    Results seem good.
So your preference is the stt's? Do they get much traffic?
You're right, rake really makes the games tough to beat at the lower levels. I know you said the £5's maybe a bit high right now. What about the £3's? Rake drops to 10%.

Good luck and hope you continue with this.

    Hey Phantom!

Glad your wife is home, and as Tikay said hopefully it's a better new year.

Nice results with the sit and go's, dyms/ stt's.

I think it's awesome you are showing a profit, purely given that the rake is so high.

Not to sure if you have ever played HU Sit and Gos, but the rake is only 5% for games of £1 and over.

I'm pretty sure you would do really well at these given your success in other sit and go's.

If you ever want to play a few games, or even watch me playing a few you can send me a message.

Nice blog, nice work, look forward to your further successes.

@Jac @Larson, thanks for the comments. I'd write this diary just for me, because it gives me discipline and helps my game but feedback always welcome.

    Re:Rake

10% is tough to beat yes, I think the real issue I have is that pre £3 level the DYMs seem to be penalised worse than 6max for the same stake. Don't really understand why but it makes it really tough to beat DYMs at early levels with 15% and even 20% rake at lowest stakes.

    Re:Volume

There is enough for me at 6max usually especially at peak times - however I doubt there would be enough to grind. I try and play the player where I can, so 2-3 tables max, although mostly just 1 or 2.

    Re:Stakes/Game types

For my bankroll, I intend to keep to £1 until I have the 100 completed then probably move up to £3.

I will stick to 6max for now. I enjoy the format more and I play for enjoyment so it makes sense - I also seem to get better results. I like MTTs but generally don't have the time, cant start too early and cant finish too late for work and family reasons.

You get much more play in a 6max - worth trying to accumulate chips (without risking stack) early on. Can be aggressive on bubble because the win rewards greater than 2nd. Also slower structure means play can be more developed. You can also have some really great HU battles with plenty of play. I think they really help develop a good all round game.

And before you say it - yes I probably played that one sub-optimally but a) initial raise was rushed I was handling an email and nearly default folded! 3BB button was pressed in haste. b) Once I hit I really wanted to get to show down as this is my first Royal Flush on Sky.

In the end I won that game - ended up heads up with 1 player who had also doubled up fairly early. Was winning out on a long battle with opponent <1k chips when I got called away. Opponent had helped themselves back up to 2.6k on my return. I started chipping away again then they picked up QQ to my ATh aipf. A short while later we were aipf again, opponent had QQ again but this time I lucked out with a flush.

    Quick update.

Made it to 80 now last 10 games 4 1sts and 1 2nd place to keep the numbers up around the same sort of level.

Quite a few 3rds - been experimenting with a touch more aggression on the bubble hence more 1sts and less cashes than normal but overall still profitable. In fact 1st place finishes are ahead of 2nds now which hasn't been the case for most of the challenge.

Had one interesting game where I was down to 5 chips 5 handed (TT lost to 44 on 356 board) and came back to playable stack then lost A6 to KJ aipf on bubble.

Another had QQ then KK in consecutive hands at level 1 to bust 3 players aipf. 1 player shortie hang on for a couple of rounds then closed out for the win - lovely game when it's that easy.

don't play many sng's on sky anymore as I would really like to see them revamped, however when I do play them I tend to play dym but can have a realy good session followed by a really bad ond making for very little profit overall. after reading through this thread think I will give six max a go see how I get on

Nearly there 190 down 10 to go.

Last run of 10 started well 3 wins on the bounce, finished with 2 on the bounce and had 2 2nds inbetween.

First 3 just got good cards and played well - only issue came in one game HU with JJ losing to AK aipf to blow out my lead but managed to get it back.

Had a bad streak in the middle - disconnection, got back with c500 chips and one other absent player picked up KK to double up couldn't quite get there.

Had one interesting hand where on SB had 4 limpers ahead at 25/50 blinds, I shove with AA BB calls then UTG limper callers. BB has AQ and UTG has JQ - trip Jacks of course wins, sigh. That was my first 6th place finish for as long as I can remember.

I am really pleased now that my 1sts are streaking ahead of my 2nds. Don't think much has changed with my HU game, more that I am accumulating chips better to have an advantage when we get there.

One of my 2nds was an exception to the rule - got down to 3 handed I am under starting stack, there is an absent shortie and bigstack has bust everyone else out and knows to put the pressure on me. Card dead and just had to wait for absentee to bust.

Last win in the 10 was interesting - posted the hand in Poker clinic - check down or not in all-in situation. I got some stick I'll be interested in feedback on that one. The player I "saved" came 2nd too.

    Well played them all now.

Last 10 didn't get too well. My extra aggression ran into some bad luck and a few bust outs. Shoving over limpers is usually good in a 6max but you do start to question it when you get called by hands like QJ or J8 suited and you bust out. Maybe is some spots I got a bit aggro too soon and paid the price but went out 5 times when ahead in aipf - had 1 or 2 of those held my last 10 would have been much better.

    Last 10 had 0 1sts and only 3 2nds.

Still ,overall a healthy profit on the 6max's and can't complain.

They definitely suit me best and I will start a new challenge for 2014 based on 6max entries. I will also look to dabble in the odd PLO8 dym and a few MTTs as B/R allows.

    See you on the tables!

Well done Phantom. I love the regular 6 max games but I would like to multitable them and there isnt much traffic. Hopefully some of the DYM grinders will switch formats now.   :)
