Back in the red, rather frustrating set of games today spread across two sessions. Only managed to find one hand i felt i wanted to review get opinions on, was alot of very standard stuff that i cant complain about always going to have spells where you run golden in flips/ 60-40s and run awful it's part of the nature of the game especially grinding so many turbos. Very frustrated at the moment as i managed to get one of the players i enjoy playing and have a big edge over to a best of 5 after he berated me for a play in the first game, lucked out on me to win 3-2 the decider kind of sums it up..although he did say he would be up for playing a few games tomorrow at 9, claiming if he played me all the time he would be a very wealthy man should be good fun, hopefully wont be writing about how he bust me this time tomorrow.

Only hand i wanted to discuss, this player is a very good reg at this level, arguably one of the best. Have notes on him being fairly tight, does not tend to mix it up too much ( i know this makes the oop call with 76o sound hurrendous and i wont even try to justify it, can't even say now why i'm just flatting pre here). So basically a very solid player who in this spot i would expect to have a very good hand pretty much 100% of the time, question is bearing that in mind, am i likely to still be beating enough of his value jamming range here to make the call.

Obviously not pleased at the moment, but will reserve judgement on whether i'm doing terribly when i get to 500 games ( if i dont go bust beforehand) If anyone fancies watching some games, discussing plays made etc pm me have joinme so is simple enough.
My initial thought was no, but plugging numbers in:
Against a value range of :AdQ, AdA, KdK, QQ, 44, 55, 33, AdJd, AdTd, Ad9d, Ad8d, Ad6d, Ad4d, Ad2d, KdQ, KdJd, KdTd, Kd9d, Kd8d, Kd6d, Kd4d, Kd2d, A2, QdJd, QdTd, Qd9d, Qd8d, Qd6d, Qd2d, JdTd, Jd9d, Jd8d, Jd6d, Td9d, Td8d, Td6d, 9d8d, 9d6d, 8d7d, 8d6d, 76
We have 36% equity if he's never bluffing.
So after calling our stack will be (1940×36%) + (60×64%)
698.4 + 38.4 = 736.8
Our stack when we fold will be 730 so it is a very marginal call.
Edited to fix my maths. Prolly still wrong lol
I dont mind calling pre against a 90% button raiser, if we are folding 76 he can profit without putting a single chip in post. you say hes much tighter than that though.
I had a horrible night last night too. Was in full on donk mode. ignored my notes on players and generally got owned. eg had a note saying big river bets meant nuts, faced an overbet jam on a horror board and snapped with top pair no kicker. Felt like it wasnt me playing at times, really weird feeling. Dealing with extended spells of losing 60/40s - 40/60s without tilting into bad play is a massive skill in these games. I got crushed in that respect last night.
Cheers for that Teddy, i called and he had Ad9d but it was another situation where i was putting chips in the pot against my instinct which i seem to be doing alot lately which could be costing me.
Had many a night/day like that just part of playing HU poker, even the very best do it occasionally i would imagine, i used to play alot of hypers as well and would climb and start taking on anyone so you can imagine some of the damage i used to do. I am not worried about a 100ish game sample, it's a concern in regards to roll but i've gone hundreds of games breaking even/down before when i felt i have been playing okay just got to keep reviewing and making sure i'm not doing anything particularly bad that may be costing me an extra buy in here and there.
Yeah interesting that you both said that, i think i just see 3betting or folding as a better option against this oppo but i'm glad peeling isn't quite as bad as i felt it was looking back.
Have ploughed through a fair few games since my last update, had a day off yesterday and got through 50ish games, felt like i was running hurrendously was suffering massively again with confidence in regards to my own play whether i was just not good enough to beat the game and managed to get into a bit of hole, but grinded it out and ended the day even which i was really happy with. Today was much better got a few games in spread across two sessions and was running good, bluffs were not being picked off, value bets were being paid off i felt like i was consistently making good decisions which has been rare since i started to play alot of poker again funny how it can change from day to day. Have yet to review the games, got work in the morning early so going to do it when i finish then post some hands hopefully, will be interesting in reflection to see if i was running particularly bad yesterday and particulary good today. Back in profit, and a positive ROI although not as good as i would like, would be nice to be 6%+ by the 500 game point.
Right thought i would get the ball rolling on this again having not posted for the last few days.
I have been very busy with normal life stuff so will try to explain a bit more about my background/current circumstances since i stopped the last diary, since finishing university it's been a bit of a minefield in regards to trying to get work i had been temping over christmas at Boots which i was massively grateful to be doing as it is tough to get a job locally where i am regardless of qualifications/experience.
It is easy to get carried away with how easy uni life is also to delude yourself it's all plain sailing from that point on and your almost entilted to just walk into any job, i know the career path i want to take eventually but in the meantime the spell between university and moving back home has been a wake up call. I have been on jobseekers, done a week in a resedential home and then worked at boots doing 7-12 shifts whilst also moving back home and losing a large sense of the independence that comes from moving away and living alone.
Anyway this week i managed to secure a job as a LSA at a local high school, i have done similar in a primary school, the interview process was very daunting two to one with the principal and vice principal and then in class observation for over an hour, everyone had more experience than me, 7 of us vying for 3 jobs, one of which was wrapped up by a volunteer so i had to really produce my best. I was told when i got the job my enthuiasm and ability to relate to the pupils i'd be working with was a more important factor to them than the experience other candidates had, which was great news as when applying for jobs so often i have been told experience has cost me, yet how can youngsters get work if they are constantly told they need experience without being given the oppurtunity to gain that experience.
So Back to poker, i have recently got my first proper pay for work so am financially in an okay position, i have decided to really go for it with the current funds in my account to get somewhere, bankroll management pretty much out the window in the knowledge that in the next few months i can afford to put in some deposits if i have too. I Have managed to sat into a couple of mtts with no luck and been doing alright on £10.50 turbos which has coincided with taking aload of medication for a football injury, definetly thinking there is positive correlation between diazapam intake and winrate.....lol
I will be updating here and there, hopefully as i build a bigger roll there will be more exciting stuff to discuss, the early stages are not all that exciting but if i spin up a bit more i'll be taking shots at satting into ukops maybe playing some mid stakes cash andwill still be on the lookout for hands to post.

Derby Burnley Leeds Ipswich Sunderland Leyton Orient Daggenham and Redbridge
No luck with the Accy unfortunately, got to play some live poker for the first time in a while last night don't play any games locally so when a few mates are around at christmas time we usually get a couple of games going 10nl felt a bit rust generally on cash. We play 10nl and was 6 of us, ended up £25 for the evening so that was decent we all buy in for 200bb, we do donk around a fair bit in these games, the one interesting hand after some strange raising pre i think it was a min open, followed by min 3bet, min 4bet then flats all round, i ended up calling off 200bb on a j104 rainbow flop with j9o after my mate who is a v-good player 4bet jammed the flop i contemplated it for a bit knowing i was either going to look incredibly stupid or very good and luckily it was the latter. The call was based on alot variables like past hands with him, instinct, body language what he was actually repping etc so was good to get it right for once, knew it was super nuts or nout and luckily it was nout, we run it 3 times and his a3 binked one of them lol but luckily not all of them would of been mega tilting!
Anyway i withdrew down to £50 yesterday to pay for christmas presents and so i could donk about in the live game without worrying about losing always prefer to play live with money i can afford to lose. My mate told me about Jason Somerville doing a $50-10k challenge and how he was doing something similar (obviously not as lofty targets on a different site) so i thought i would get a spreadsheet going and have a go at spinning up in similar fashion, i have absolutely no reason to withdraw now with christmas paid for, wages coming in and my new job meaning all my expenses will be covered so it's all about seeing how far i can go. I'm tracking each type of game, profit/loss and planning on playing all variants of poker so will no doubt see me donking about on cash, mtts and HU. If i bust i will reload again, but it's a bit of fun i've got the bug back for cash again so will probably one table half/all my roll at some point and just hope things go my way. Anyway i'm not finished for the day yet but will update here and there with all the details, there is alot of spin up diaries on here at the moment like idonkcallu and craigsg so a bit of motivation for myself might be to try catch them up see how i do in comparison but mainly just want to enjoy the game.
So to round up for the HU stats since i first posted
Games: 385 Profit: £102
That essentially has been withdrawn now, paid for christmas one of the bonuses of having a hobby that involves money. I'll be posting each day in regards to the £50+ challenge now and what games i've played. GL all at the tables.
So this hand just happened after about 15 minutes of sitting at the table, no idea who any of the plaayers are if they are regs etc just thought i'd take a shot and this table had a seat goijg ...when your sitting with the majority of your roll at the highest cash stakes you have ever played a hand like this is pretty tense, safe to say i wasn't feeling great during the hand it as i had no idea where i was at, is my play on the turn bad looking back it seems more of a bet call off than a check raise spot, i was always check jamming although made a slight miscalculation so he was left with a tiny bit behind on the river, the buzz when the money came my way was nice though. Still at the table so could well be updating that i have blown it all in the next hour but thats all part of trying to spin it up 100nl next then i'll be coming for style and zing... lol
Turned out to be a good night, managed to win a couple of decent hands on the 50nl table, played some hypers to end the evening was the same player i know and we played 17 games, was doing pretty well but he went into mega rungood mode and ended up a couple of BI's up on me but can't complain as with the overally HU for the day and good shot at 50nl i made £65.51 overall so a good start.
Start: £50
Current: £115.51
I was chatting to my mate on skype at the time who was sweating with me, just decided to flat the 59s oop as you do when your playing with pretty much your entire roll on the table at stakes your not very comfortable at, felt i then had to call the small 3bet when the button did and the rest of the hand i quite enjoyed..
Always nice to be picking up hands and holding when taking shots.. will update again when i end this evening spin up is going okay, always the possibility i'll be bust come the next post though lol
Today i donked off 2bis in a forum 4nl game always like to jump into them when i can but didn't last long, overplayed top pair and then got it aipf with Larson which is always good fun. Played a couple of sessions of 50nl with 200bb again feeling a bit more comfortable recognizing some regs and just enjoying each time i sit down.
Managed to make £120.39 at 50nl today which is an outrageous figure for me in a day, not doing anything fancy just trying to play solid poker and seem to be getting into some nice spots where my hands hold, i know it can't last forever but it's nice knowing now when i sit 200bb deep at 50nl i am freerolling with profit.
So over the past couple of days i have span up to £229.80 from the £50, funnily enough i didn't expect to get to this point anytime soon and now i am wondering the best course of action i think having started with the 50 it's best to just go with the spin up gamble and try see how far i get then my nerves will be tested a bit more if i hit a few hundred and could start to think about using it as a proper roll for specific stakes again e.g. multitabling 20nl or something. But just enjoying it at the moment, will post some of the hands i have had in a minute. Even if i lose £179.80 i'm still even thats always a nice place to be at!
This hand i just wondered whether my check back on turn seemed okay, the overbet on the river was because i felt he was value betting and a big overbet would look very bluffy/polarized on my part which might of been snapped off by alot of Ax hands- two pairs etc. Feel free to rip me to pieces i.e. should of bet turn, bet smaller river etc..
In Response to Re: An insight into low stakes Heads Up SNGS / Spin up from £50 playing anything... : You're new to cash poker? Completely standard preflop & flop action. I prob bet the turn. Like the big bet on river, but I'm a cash fish Posted by goldnballz
think i need too play some cash games if that is the standard!
really cant see how that hand merits such a high bet and then shove with 77!
no offence meant just cant figure out how that play pays off in the long run!
Yeah its pretty standard in cash to 3 bet a wider range of hands. People abuse position in cash way more than MTTs. Most players will C-bet about 90% of flops if they have position regardless if they hit or not. He's still charging for draws and is quite possibly ahead at this point.
FWIW Churchy he doesnt shove just a pair of 7s.... he has a flush by the river.
And Ben... i like continueing to show strength on the turn by betting there too. Don't mind the check back though.
Just read your diary, and I will defo contribute to your hands. Shame I missed some of yours, had a few things to say. Maybe if you could give me insight on some of mine at same time?
Anyway, well done and enjoyed the read. What I will say is that every time I've took a shot at 25/50 and 5/10 I've run horribly. Running AK v set allin on flop AK5, set over setted twice and my flopped nut hands losing to runner runners. It's been pretty horrible. My point is now you have a great BR use it to play higher in your preferred discipline of HU. Still play cash but maybe drop to 5/10 MC tables.
Also, would love to play you at some £2 HU's. I have a different HU strategy that I think works (well, it does for me) and would be great to get good practice against a good opponent.
@Gracious is the 3bet sizing too big then do you think? once i take this line i feel i have to cbet that board as well £5.75 is pretty standard i think between 1/2 and 3/4 pot. Funnily enough i'd probably just fold this in a freeroll so it's a play not even worthy of a freeroll! lol
@goldnballz glad you think it's standard, interesting that you and Gaz would sway with betting the turn it definetly was a close decision for me so glad i've got some input about it.
@Churchy118 i overbet the river as i have hit a backdoor flush (although i think it would of been a pretty sick bluff with just the pair of 7s lol) and i think that river will have improved alot of my oppos 3bet flatting range, his bet looks like it's asking to be paid off suggesting he is value betting something decent and i might get paid off.
@gazza127 thanks for the input/explanation. Yeah i wasn't too sure about the check back, felt like i could improve alot by the river, didn't want to be raised on the turn and be put in a spot where i would have to fold, also by checking back can maybe find a call if a blank falls and oppo bets out but i guess that would be thin/stationy because i'm so used to HU.
@Craig yeah that is good advice and someone else said something similar could have a go at playing a fair amount of £10/£21 standard hu and that would probably be the sensible thing to do. I will continue to gamble a bit more but if i get much higher than i will think about practising standard bankroll management again, and i'm up for playing HU sometime just search me out on the tables or message me in here and if we are both about we can play some games. GL at the tables.
Been up and down the last few days not played that much but still enough for the roll to have seung up and down a bit, i'm up since i last posted though and have nearly 5xed my initial 50 in the last few days so happy with that. Had a decent session today, have mixed in a fair few HU but the majority of play has still been at 50nl did sit at 100nl for a little bit today but was soon left with just a table of regs and felt a bit out of my depth with my entire roll at the table lol...
Start (23/12/13) : £50 Current: £246.86
Would be nice to have a few days spell like that more often it has to be said, i'm still yet to be on the end of any coolers though which is inevitable and would dent my roll quite badly seeing as i like to sit 200bb deep at 50nl, am feeling a bit more comfortable playing them stakes now though, maybe a bit cautious in some spots but bound to happen. The spin up continues though, didn't expect it to last even an evening with 1bi but now im approaching 5 it might be time to move up! lol it's all good fun though will just carry on 1 tabling 50nl playing a bit of HU and hope i can avoid a bad day which would leave me bust.
Will search my history now and just post some of the bigger pots won and lost last couple of days.
